I am always happy to help a fellow role player.
It all comes down to what you are interested in really. What your ability is in creative writing. How much time you have to roleplay.
Answer those and I can help.

I can get real descriptive and if I'm given something to work with I write real good replies. I recently found the Gaia App for the smartphone, so whenever i get a notice I generally reply.
Okay then, we shall say you are semi-lit to lit. Now have you done any roleplaying before?
Having previous examples and samples helps everyone interested in helping anyone mature into a better writer. The more recent the better

I don't really have anything to show though.
See, that's a problem. Without a starting point, it may be hard to figure out on what to improve upon, or to know where to start.

When I said I was new to this, I had the full intent of taking advice on how to start from the very beggining.
All you gotta do is find a plot that you think might "tickle your fancy" and then join up. Don't go for anything too literate, and when you send in your reserve or profile, explain to them that you are new. If they reject you thats okay, if they accept you then they will be able to give you tips.

Things to remember:
~ Always follow the Gaia ToS, nothing pisses people off more then when someone doesn't follow the rules and gets their forum banned.
~ Always use third person, unless specified.
~ Think ahead when planning your character and where you want them to go in the story. Also plan with other people about yours and their character.
~ Try to change your characters up, every once in a while. If you struggle for diversity within your characters, then use role-plays that already have specific roles assigned. So for instance the role play might be requesting the "bad-boy" where you usually play a typical "nice guy" or vice versa.
~ Ask for advice. When ever you get stuck, just ask for help. People usually don't mind giving advice to people, especially if it'll help better a role play.

I hope these tips can aid you. If you are looking for a specific genre of role-play I may be able to help you out, just PM me. If you want maybe start of with a onexone search thread. Either contact someone else or make one yourself.

Well, first off, welcome to the world of gaia roleplaying. c:
I've been roleplaying on Gaia for about four years now.
I'd admit, when I first started I wasn't very good at it. I was actually nervous to start because
I didn't want to make a fool of myself.
But here are a few tricks of the trade that I've learned throughout the years.
Hopefully they'll be of use to you.

- Obviously, you want to be a part of a roleplay that you're interested in. But keep in mind before
you join the level of literacy. You want to be a part of a roleplay where not only you can keep up
with others but others can keep up with you. You don't want to overwhelm your fellow roleplayers
but you don't want to hold them back either because you're not giving them enough to work off of.
- Roleplaying is a give and take kind of game. Your fellow roleplayers give you something to work
off of so it's only common courtesy that you do the same. You should always at least try to match
the length of the person your roleplaying with. For example, if you and I were roleplaying and I
reply with three paragraphs, I'll expect you to return the favor and write at least two paragraphs in
turn.
- Everyone has their own character they love playing and that's fine. But you want to venture out
and feel around for the characters and roles you're most comfortable with. Personally, whenever
I'm creating a new character, I always roleplay with that character in a more 'chill' roleplay. If I'm
making a new character, I won't roleplay with that character in a literate roleplay because I'm not
familiar with that character yet and won't have much to write about. I usually join a high school
roleplay when I make a new character just to kind of develop him/her and whatnot.
- Try to stray away from common characters, 'mary sues and gary stus'. They're just no fun and
seeing the same thing over and over again honestly gets annoying. Have your character have
flaws and secrets. It makes it much more interesting and fun.
- It's always important to plot with your fellow roleplayers. It's fun to listen to other peoples ideas
and create relationships between characters. It also allows for the roleplay to go along much
smoother and longer when everyone knows what's going on and you have future plans for your
characters.
- Always interact with other characters when you roleplay. Not only is it kind of rude to ignore
other characters and roleplay with only one person, it just makes it more interesting to have
relationships with other characters. If you want to really focus on one other character, search
for a one x one that suits your fancy.
- Never be afraid to put an idea out there. Us roleplayers love hearing other
people's ideas. It helps get those creative juices flowing.
- Just have fun. c:

Hopefully this has helped you, even if just a little bit. If you have any questions, don't
be afraid to ask. c:
