hrm... can I ask a few questions first? haha.
I honestly didn't expect a Ghibli character, which is why the hesitation.
Can you tell me a bit about the character and how you're planning on converting him?
Also, maybe a bit about the castle itself. Like... ray beams of death I'm gonna say are a no-go, but I do want some more info on what you're thinking you might want to use for the roleplay.
and the same-old-same-old. who would you have connections with? What is your characters goals?
Just super quick before I ask you to edit an image and stuff. haha. Better safe than sorry and have done all the work.
Basically just ensuring that it fits the roleplay, since we had initially made it tailored to fit traditional Disney or Pixar characters mainly, and hadn't expected anyone to ask for Ghibli.
Ah! not a problem!
Many of my information is due to cross-watching english and japanese versions of the movie, I do a lot of character interpretation.
I was not planning on using the giant weapon thing so don't worry about that. As far as I've discerned, Laputians are a semi-immortal race where they can obtain eternal youth, however can still be killed by a fatal blow. Aetherium is essentially kryptonite (albeit it can be used as a power source in certain amounts-- think drug overdose as when it gets dangerous-) and thus that explains the reasoning behind Muska being relatively unharmed during the majority of the plot, save for when he's burned by Sheeta's crystal and when the light from the Aetherium core blinds him (that's like the very end so uh...)
Also, I major in psychology so forgive me for this if it seems like an entire diagnostic manual. I promise, this is not a case-study.
By movie plot, Muska knows many things about Laputa, its inner workings, and its vast history. I have talked to other Ghibli fans and we came to a consensus that Muska is in his late twenties to mid thirties. Considering that most of the plot is based in a place that is already "European" -- note, Pazu's hometown, Slag Ravine, is supposed to be somewhere in Scotland (from various things I've heard...)
I am unsure of how European school systems functioned in the 1800s, however if we assume that someone with the level of knowledge that Muska has is most likely in possession of the equivalent to a doctorate degree, most doctorates are obtained at 25 years of age (given a student who starts college at 18 and goes through 4 years of a Bachelor's Degree, 2 of a Masters, and 1 extra for Doctoral Study).
Thus, it is highly unlikely that Muska would be able to know as much as he does even if we put him in his mid-thirties.
In the original japanese version, Muska says "Laputa's King has returned after seven-hundred long years," (this is my really bad translation, forgive me!) and from this, I started to wonder if Muska was, in fact, the last king at the time of Laputa's fall. It would explain his knowledge of the runes upon the "Dark Stone" and why he can navigate the labyrinth of the lower chambers.
I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A BOOK ON THEIR "EARTH" THAT HAS A DIAGRAM OF HOW TO NAVIGATE THE INNER CHAMBERS OF LAPUTA. That is so unlikely. This leaves the theory of Muska being "semi-immortal".
SEMI IMMORTAL MEANS THAT THERE IS NO AGING AFTER A CERTAIN POINT. I theorize that there are two major groups of immortals. Type 1 being the "cannot be killed" group, and type 2 being "never aging or dying of sickness, yet not un-killable by fatal blows". A type 1 immortal would be Capt. Jack from Torchwood. I see Muska as the type 2 immortal. I hope this would clear up any possible OP nature.
Also, Muska seems (in the movie) to have forgotten many of the spells that would get him to Laputa, hence why he uses Sheeta's crystal.
Moving on-- Freezing frames of the movie reveals that in Pazu's father's sketches of the Laputian people (in his own theory) are dressed in pseudo-Medieval fashions. This makes it easy to convert by fashion style alone.
Also, brief references to Gulliver's Travels, which Castle in the Sky is loosely based on. Laputa is said to be an ancient civilization, I wouldn't doubt that it was around during the Medieval times.
Relationships? Sheeta, who is the last royal of Laputa (or a descendant, this is excluding Muska) would be a pre-determined relation- I won't lie, I enjoy protag/antag ships. Royals usually know each other, and thus Muska would most likely have diplomatic relations with other leaders.
I'd like to note that Muska is on his own side due to his nature as a skilled manipulator and liar (although perhaps Muska would've told the truth, had he been asked the right questions). He could ally himself with either side, most likely whichever he thought would have an "upper hand". I'd assume that in this type of situation, his goal would be to preserve his kingdom (we can pretend that the Laputians aren't all dead-- we're converting to a different time period and I don't care if the Medieval era isn't 700 years before like... 1820 or whenever in the 1800s Castle in the Sky happened).
I apologize for this novel of a reply, if you have any more questions, I am completely capable of answering them.
haha
Ugh... thanks!
Mostly I'm concerned with him in the context of this roleplay in particular.
I want some information about how you're going to make a Ghibli character fit in with the others.
Who you might want to draw connections to within the roleplay? You need 3 connections for the reserve, and I'd prefer if the connections are with other characters. the point of the connections is to draw the players together and give everyone some sort of springboard to work with at the beginning of the roleplay. Even if it's something only as loose as: "Ariel is inteerested in seeing the Neverland mermaids and so she is exited to meet Peter Pan". It's a start and it gives them something to talk about and to interact with each other about. Choosing connections also shows that you're willing to figure out how your character can bring themselves to the table, so to speak, in the context of the other characters. Everyone is from a different story, so it's interesting to see how the connections are being made and it helps draw the universe closer together.
So, information about how you're planning on taking the character you just described and fitting him to the world is what I"m looking for. How exactly is he going to interact with people? Like, what are your general plans for him in terms of the plot?
I'm not really going to do neutral characters (if you notice everyone is in either of the three factions. they obviously have their own reasons for being in there, but they have announced that they support one or the other). Also a reason for not doing Neutral characters is because I don't want anyone to end up on their own. If your character is selfish and out for their own gain, that's fine. They can still choose and Allegiance but be out for only number 1. That's what we have for Shere Khan and Kuzco and Elsa, even though two are with the Bear King and one is with the Coven.
I'm just trying to determine if he's a good fit for the roleplay, if only because Ghibli was not our target character. haha.
I am going to head to bed soon, so Harmonie is the other person helping me run this roleplay (as is Andeer) so they'll also be making the decision for Ghibli. They might have their own questions so... if they ask stuff, don't freak. haha. They're also running it
smile
EDIT: Also RedneckAriel is a co-owner. haha.
