"Jyudaime!" There was a shout that startled Sawada Tsunayoshi in his room, and by the time he hid away whatever it was he was reading and turned towards the door, the heavy footsteps had carried Gokudera Hayato to his door. Tsuna stood, a little taken aback at the other teen's slightly flushed face, the palest of reds dotting his cheeks while a serious glow glinted in his eyes. "G-Gokudera-kun!" He said, eying his right hand man carefully. "Wh-what's wrong?" It was natural for the other boy to barge into his home with no problems but there was something worrying about how Gokudera appeared. "Varia is calling a meeting, Tenth! Right now, Giannini is making the connection. We gotta get to HQ." There was seriousness in his voice as the other teen relayed the message. "Varia...calling us!?" A minute later, Tsuna was right next to his storm guardian, both running at full speed down the streets to Namimori Shrine. The Vongola X could only hope this wasn't bad as bad as Gokudera made it sound like.
The doors of the headquarters noiselessly slid open, letting the two through. They didn't talk anymore, questions had already been asked on the way over and now both were lost in their own worries. Though the Varia was the Vongola's top assassination squad, communication between the two organizations were scarce and for only one reason: the Varia simply did not associate itself with the Vongola. It was a matter of pride and independence for the Varia to stay reclusive in the shadows of the Mafia. Tsuna thought back; the only other time the Varia had outright opened communication and willingly helped with the fights was when they faced battle from the Millefiore. The heavy feeling in his stomach grew and even heavier as he tried to pretend that the this was some sort of joke coming from the Varia's side.
Hayato paused in front of the doorway, beckoning to Tsuna. "Tenth, everyone's here already," he said, then disappeared into the room. Tsuna followed, then stopped short in the doorway, taking in the sight. When Gokudera said everyone, he meant it. Even Hibari who usually avoided any sort of contact with the other Guardians unless it involved breaking someone's bones or picking a fight with the enemy. "Yo, Tsuna!" Came a familiar greeting from the center of the room. Yamamoto grinned and held up a hand from his seat. As Gokudera took a seat right next to Yamamoto, Lambo pounded his hands on the table and demanded for something to eat. "Hello, boss." Chrome-chan smiled up at him while Mukuro gave Tsuna a dangerous smile as he passed by the heterochromatic teen. Ryohei leaped to his feet, fists raised in the air as he spoke with his usual exaggerated energy, "Sawada!! We've been waiting for you...to the EXTREME!" Hibari, who was sitting right next to the energized teen shot everyone a threatening glare then turned to look on Tsuna with an even more scathing glare. Hiieee... Tsuna hurried to his seat, the only one left standing as he noted in a corner of his distracted mind that it was the seat at the head of the table – the head of the family.
The screen flickered to light, and for a moment, coded words flashing in a bright red scattered across the screen, casting the room in a thick crimson light. Then, just as quickly, the words filtered through and showed the face of someone they knew oh so well. "Vongola~ How are you all doing??" Lussuria had the camera zoomed too far in on his face and instinctively, the people in the room recoiled as the echo of his voice shattered their eardrums. "I've got some good news and some bad news! Good news first-" A loud cry resonated from the screen, then Lussuria was violently knocked out of the way by a certain silver-haired swordsman. Superbi Squalo spoke, ignoring the cries of "Squalo-baby~ You're stepping on my face~!" from the floor. "Cut to the chase you filthy trash." came from an irritated Xanxus in the background. Squalo sneered and turned to the camera, addressing the watchers for the first time. "There's been an escapee from the Vendicare Prison. Specifically, Noctis."
Mukuro from the side hissed lowly. Unable to comprehend who this 'Noctis' was, Tsuna turned towards the Mist Guardian, eyes wide and questioning. Mukuro crossed his arms across his chest and leaned back into the chair, crossing his legs as he did so. "Noctis is the capo famiglia of the Nero Inverso family, an underground Mafia famiglia that is only a few steps behind the Vongola. He was secured in a prison level far lower than mine. The fact that he escaped means we have...a very unpleasant war coming." Tsuna waited for the heterochromatic teen's playful laugh buy nothing came. Desperate, the Vongola boss turned towards Squalo and gave him a searching look. Squalo nodded in agreement with the Mist Guardian. "Noctis will inevitably target the Vongola, as the strongest family. The Varia will fight for the Vongola in this battle. BETTER MAKE SURE YOU DON'T LOSE, BRAT. That's all."
The screen went dark, leaving the room in a dimmer light that fit the somber mood.
Vongola Decimo, the youngest and seemingly least suited for the job slowly sat down. Regardless of how little attention he was paying to his famiglia, every eye in the room was on him. His hands were shaking. 'War? Now? We just beat Byakuran and the Millefiore...' His eyebrows knit together, worry taking away the color in his face. But then, he looked up, meeting the gazes of his family and friends.
"To protect everyone we love, we'll fight."
