Rules & Guidelines for Posting in Barton OOC

What belongs in Barton OOC?

Threads in Barton OOC are typically created for the following purposes:

  • To recruit people for roleplays on Gaia or via messengers and/or Private Messages only. Recruitment topics in this forum must have substantial content; if you are looking for a roleplay partner, don't just put: "looking for rp on AIM (insert name here)", or something to that effect. List your ideas and preferences. Threads which do not contain substantial content will be moved to the Chatterbox.

  • To discuss roleplaying techniques, formats, ideas, and offer or request roleplaying advice. Please note that "ask me questions" threads or those without substantial discussion content to start with will be removed.

  • To create Out-Of-Character (OOC) threads in order to keep your main roleplay thread free of chatter. OOC threads MUST contain a link to the Gaia roleplay they correspond to within the first few posts.

  • To keep character profiles in one thread for one roleplay. When doing so, please make sure to have a link to either your Out Of Character thread or the main roleplay within the first few posts.

What does NOT belong in Barton OOC?

  • Do not recruit for sexually explicit or violently graphic roleplays, which are in violation of Gaia's Terms of Service. Recruitment threads for group or one-one-one roleplays should:
    • Never propose adult/sexual ratings (e.g. "Rated R", "Rated XXX" )
    • Never ask for limits/ratings from potential roleplayers, or offer to discuss limits/ratings in private
    • Never propose "no limit" roleplays
    • Never request roleplays involving any sort of adult/pornographic/explicit genre or concept (eg."Futanari", "Incest", "Cyber" )

Soliciting roleplay of this nature can result in a warning or ban as appropriate against your account, and creating accounts exclusively to solicit inappropriate roleplay will not protect your main account from punishment.

  • Do not recruit for/advertise your private, offsite forums.

  • Do not complain about roleplays or roleplay quality in Barton Town -- help people make better ones; don't complain! If you really want to rant, please make use of your journal.

  • Do not advertise a GGN or unregistered guild in these forums, even if it is roleplay-related.

  • Do not post spam or threads that do not serve any purpose in Barton OOC.

Commonly Misplaced Threads

Certain topics are not suitable for Barton OOC; please follow the guide below to find out where to post these threads, and be sure to read the rules of other forums before posting there.

Barton OOC Thread-Making FAQ

This is a list of frequently asked questions to help you find the perfect roleplay while in Barton OOC!

What should my thread include when I make my first post?

Your first post should include basic info about what you like to roleplay. Listing topics will make it easier for someone to find a common roleplay with you. The more information you can post, the better. You can always use this format if you don't know what you should post:

  • What genre of roleplay are you looking for? (e.g. fantasy, modern, science fiction)
  • Would you be interested in a fandom-based roleplay? (e.g. based on an anime, movie, book etc.) You may also want to include specific titles you'd like to roleplay (e.g. Inuyasha, Final Fantasy X, Harry Potter etc.) or even specific characters you want to roleplay as (e.g. Inuyasha, Kagome, Sango; Tidus, Yuna, Auron; Harry, Hermione, Ron etc.)
  • What roleplaying style/format do you prefer? (e.g. long, detailed posts, literate, semi-literate, no preference?)
  • Where would you like to roleplay this? (Gaia's roleplaying forums, private messages, your preferred instant messenger)

Can I brainstorm with other Gaians to make a roleplay here?

Yes! That's part of what this forum was made for! 3nodding However, it is encouraged to have at least a basic plot to expand on. That way, you can post what situation would be great for a roleplay, and another user can add to it. Posting "inuyasha roleplay" really doesn't count as brainstorming, as it's just two words. Try to elaborate on what you think would be a good roleplay. That way other users have a good idea of what you are looking for. Having detail will also spark more interest in your roleplay.

When I find a partner/roleplay/roleplaying group, should I change the title to something?

When you finish with a thread, changing your title to "RESOLVED" would help people know that you have finished with the thread. This way, less finished threads are bumped up by people thinking that you are still looking.

Can I make help threads?

Making threads to instruct others in roleplaying is an awesome idea! However, when making a thread like this, you must show the information you are going to teach people who ask. Please do not make threads saying "I'll help you rp, pm me", or something to that effect.

Can I advertise for existing roleplays and GGN roleplays?

GGN or other guild forum roleplays being advertised in Barton OOC is not allowed, though you can recruit for a GGN Guild in the Registered Guilds forum.

However, advertising existing roleplays in Barton Town is acceptable. The only thing we ask is that if you have an existing roleplay, you try to explain what the roleplay is about. Try not to post a link and say "join please". Think of it as selling your thread to people. You should make them want to join, not just throw a link at them!

Can I bump my thread?

This subforum is slow-moving, so we are ask you to only bump if your thread goes off the first page. That way, threads are not filled with bumps.

Report Hacking, Scamming or Abuse & Harassment?

The Hacking, Scamming and Abuse or Harassment report forms can be found at the bottom of the forum index. When submitting a report, ensure that you fill out all fields and include as much relevant information as possible.

    Report A Hacking
Use this form to report a Hacking. Hacking, on Gaia Online, refers to the unauthorized access of an account by someone other than the account owner. In most typical hacking cases, an unauthorized person enters an account which does not belong to him or her and takes items or gold from the account, often changing the account information so that the original owner can no longer access his or her account.

    Report A Scamming
Use this form to report a Scamming. Scamming is when another member of Gaia takes your gold or items, or tries to take your gold or items, by making false promises of giving you rare items, get-rich-quick schemes, or by any other deceptive means. Scamming generally involves a situation in which two members of Gaia make an arrangement to trade gold, items, or a Gaia approved service (e.g. avatar art commission) with each other and then one of the parties involved in the arrangement fails to live up to his or her promise of an exchange.

    Report Abuse or Harassment
