Inside each and every person, there lives a dream. Whether it is to find a long lost love, or become famous throughout the world. Perhaps it is to become the most powerful, or to simply live peacefully in a quiet town with a family. But no matter the dream, it drives us to become something more than what we begin as. These dreams, although so very different, have a way of binding us together. Thousands and thousands of individual dreams colliding together to create one destiny, one future. But this future is not written in stone, it is an ever changing organism that adapts to our choices. Too often, it is assumed that destiny is unmovable, when it is nothing more than the collective mass of every decision we as a people have ever made.

Hundreds of years ago in a land called Rhapsody, there lived a young man named Firenze whose dream was to entertain the world. Slowly, he began to develop ways to mystify and amaze his audiences. After years and years of research, he began to travel the globe to put on his one-man act. Rabbits were pulled from hats, he would disappear in front of their very eyes, doves would fly out from behind an audience member’s ear. Some were amazed, and applauded the man. Others were skeptical, sure that there was some kind of trick to what he was doing. One particular young woman, Reinetta, was determined to know the answer, and when the young man refused to give away his methods, she began researching for herself. After years and years of research, she found an ancient artifact known as the Rosetta Stone. Upon reading its hieroglyphics, she finally found what she had been looking for. But when she found the answer, even she couldn’t believe what she had found.

There were no tricks. It was real magic.

To be more precise, Firenze was using Teleport magic to create his spectacles. But there were limitless types of magic written on the Stone. Reinetta had gone mad with power, reading all of the types of magic and mastering them all. Firenze had tried to protect the Stone, knowing it was too much power for any one person to have. But it was too late, she had mastered Summoning magic, and created monsters and demons to attack everything in sight. The monsters were too strong for him to fend off by himself. And so, with the last of his power, he defeated the witch and broke the Rosetta Stone into countless pieces and spread them throughout the world, in the hopes that people could find them and defend themselves against the horrific demons that plagued the world. People that found and were able to read these pieces became known as Mages.

It has been said that inside the Rosetta Stone was a gem known as the Dream Pearl. The Dream Pearl was said to be the source of all magical power in the world, and if someone was to obtain it, their wildest dreams and wishes would be granted…

As more and more people came under attack from the demons, the world government organized organizations called Guilds. These Guilds were composed of local Mages that would take on various missions for money. Although the government sanctioned their creation, they’re only tied in the loosest sense. Guilds are many times independent groups acting for their own gain. However, the government saw this as a way to deter Mages from crime and promote them fighting off demons. One Guild in particular has done incredible work in the fight against demons: Fate’s Crescendo. Comprised of a variety of powerful mages, they have done considerable work in eliminating demonic forces, yet they often times accidentally cause as much destruction as they prevent. On the opposite end, a mysterious Guild called Phantom King has arose, causing nothing but destruction in their path...

Recently, there have been more rumors than ever over the location of the Dream Pearl. With the competition at its fiercest, will the Pearl fall into the wrong hands once more…?

xxxxxxxxxxDefeat Daeva Arc Recap


The members of Fate's Crescendo had been lounging around their guild headquarters doing their everyday activities. At the start of the day, the a few of the members had began to gather in the bar where they contemplated a mission, an A-Ranked assignment which involved defeating a powerful demon in Viola Jungle known as Daeva. Meanwhile, another guild known as Phantom King were plotting the same mission. After a bit of conversation, the two guilds decided to set off, unknowing of the other guild. Two days later, they arrived at the scene of the mission.

After a small skirmish between the two guilds, Daeva made a shocking appearance, surrounded by a powerful barrier. With ease, Daeva managed to send the members of both guilds flying through the air in separate directions, splitting the guild members from each other as well as mixing members of the two guilds together into four separate groups. Only a select few actually knew how to handle Daeva: they needed to destroy the Lachyma Crystals, which were feeding Daeva their power and forming the barrier around it. Some of the groups got lucky and destroyed the crystal accidentally, while others knew exactly what they were doing. But no group seemed to get off easy, as designated areas around the crystals had different obstacles which they had to overcome.

After many hours of venturing, the teams converged on the final crystal, where Daeva finally appeared again. As some distracted him, the others moved to destroy the final crystal and relieve him of his power. After the crystal was destroyed, the all moved in to destroy Daeva. With much difficulty and teamwork, the two guilds temporarily joined forces and brought Daeva to his death. With their mission accomplished, the guilds split the reward amongst each other and went on their way back to their headquarters victorious.

But, it seems an ominous cloud hangs over their heads. What lies in wait for them next?

1. Literacy

This roleplay is literate, meaning I want around three + paragraphs per post. I'm incapable of writing gigantic novel-esque posts, so I don't expect that you can either. However, I do expect minimal grammatical and spelling errors. Quality over quantity here, but that doesn't mean that you can do one-liners and such. If your character is stuck, bring it to my attention and we'll work something out. =)


2. Stay with It!

Please don't create a character and abandon the roleplay! This is one of my biggest pet peeves. If you no longer wish to participate in the roleplay, please inform me and we can work together to create a proper ending for your character. Also, please inform me if you will be unable to post for an extended period of time.


3. Gaia Policies

Obviously, this roleplay is on Gaia Online, and thus all of its rules apply to the roleplay. A little romance, cursing, and violence is permitted (and even encouraged), but this is a 13+ site, so do not go overboard.


4. Post Styles

Make your posts as pretty as you like! Just no hard to read colors, and I ask that you use 10-11 size font.


5. Characters

Please fill out a Background Check and PM it to me. This will allow me to judge your literacy level, and if I think you're a good fit for the roleplay. If I approve, you may then begin to work on the character skeleton. Post a link to the completed skeleton in the OOC thread, and on the Application Due Date, I will judge your profile (if there is any competition for the role) and place it in the profile thread.

The headquarters are located in a small town known as Jazz. The building is gargantuan, in comparison to the rest of the town, at least. It contains a fully functional restaurant and bar, as well as dormitories for the Mages. The guild master is a small, old, frail-looking woman named Laila Durmett, who is a SS-Ranked user of Titan Magic, which causes her to grow to incredible sizes and increases her strength. Yet, she has gown old and her body isn't able to do what it used to. Still, she keeps her fellow Mages in line and has drinks with them when she can. She's also known to be a bit perverted with the male members, but she loves everyone very dearly.


The Rebellious Flame

Touching it, you were granted the power of fire. When the villagers found out, you were forced off the island. They put you in a small carriage and pushed you off to sea with no food or water, though you were only a young boy. You spent your years wandering from town to town, never settling down. Finally, you came across Fate’s Crescendo and found a home. You’re one of the most powerful Mages in the Guild, but your reckless attitude keeps you at a low rank.


The Hopeful Princess

The headquarters appear to be a large Victorian-style mansion overlooking the sea on a high cliff. From the outside it appears abandoned, but the inside is fully functional and it clearly has a gothic-motif in design. All members have their own area as well as bedrooms and kitchens to use at their whims. No one has ever seen the Guild Master, and he or she only communicates with the Guild via carrier crow, the letters signed only by the word "Void". The Guild Master is presumably SS-Ranked.


The Charged Demon

Still, you genuinely care about your guild mates, even if you won't admit it. Though you're officially A-Rank, you're easily S-Rank. With the Dream Pearl, you'll bring Reinetta back to life and destroy this planet and all of its inhabitants. You use Lightning Magic.


The Deathly Boom

An elite squadron of seven powerful S-Ranked Mages that work directly for the World Government as their enforcers. Although they work for the government, they are able to take any missions they please on the side, though they must give a twelfth of the bounty to the government. In exchange, they get perfect immunity from any former or future crimes. Currently, they have set their sights on two of the most dangerous and wild guilds, Fate's Crescendo and Phantom King. If any member deems it necessary, they will shut down these guilds by force. The group is led by Grand Composer of the World Government Dorian Sapone, an SS-Ranked Mage whose name alone strikes fear into the hearts of nearly all mages.


The Laconic Shadow

Tracking down and eliminating criminals was a bittersweet job, but you never shied away from it. In fact, you were such a good little soldier that when you happened to find a Rosetta Stone piece that gave you Shadow Magic, you were thrust into training to reach S-Rank as quickly as possible and become a member of Red Moon. You're the youngest and newest member, but somehow it already feels like this is where you belong.


The Torrential Downpour

As one of the most powerful and notorious crews out in the sea, you search for the ultimate treasure: the Dream Pearl. Though she's not technically affiliated with the crew, the SS-Ranked Pirate Queen Carmelita Veleno represents all pirates, including Ubiquitous Dawn.


The Determined Captain

Unwilling to give up his -and now your- dream, you assembled your own crew, and became the captain of Ubiquitous Dawn.


The Carefree Swashbuckler

This post will consist of a list of terms as well as your questions about the world of Rhapsody answered by me! So send in your questions!

Bound ;; When a Rosetta Stone Piece resonates with a Mage's lifeforce, thus granting them magical abilities. Once bound, that Rosetta Stone cannot bind with any other Mage. The Stone does not need to be in proximity for the Mage to keep their powers. The Stone becomes unbound only when the Mage dies. When this happens, the Stone can then bind to another potential Mage.

Demons ;; Beings summoned by Reinetta approximately 700 years ago. They vary greatly in size, shape, and power, but all share an appetite for destruction. They operate on an "immortal-until-killed" basis, so there are many Demons still out there now. Like any other animals, they are capable of reproduction, so they can also increase their numbers without Reinetta. A few Demons are human-esque in form, and capable of becoming Mages via Rosetta Stone pieces.

Dream Pearl ;; A Pearl that was said to be inside of the Rosetta Stone. Legends say it is the source of the Rosetta Stone's power. It is said that the person that holds the Dream Pearl will have all of their wishes granted.

Guilds ;; Organizations sanctioned by the World Government that offer Mages the ability to perform civil services for rewards. Guild members can be as close as they choose to be. Some spend all day in the Guild headquarters, while others only stop in to pick up new assignments.

Lachyma Crystals ;; Five crystals said to be from a tyrannical queen who used them as a way to keep her enslaved people in her kingdom so they couldn’t run away. No one knows where they came from, but they create an impenetrable barrier around a specific target. Hundreds of years later, it seems the demon Daeva has used these crystals to create a perfect defense around itself.

Magic ;; Any special ability gained by becoming bound to a piece of the Rosetta Stone. They can range from manipulating the elements, to modifying physical attributes, or even being able to become bald at will. The types of magic in the world are extremely varied, with some being much more useful than others.

Rank ;; A letter grade administered by the Guild Masters and approved by the World Government. These ranks range from D to SS. Missions are assigned ranks as well, and only Mages that are that rank are permitted to take them. Lower-ranked Mages are permitted to go on higher ranked missions only if they have an appropriately-ranked chaperone Mage. SS-Ranked Mages are monitored closely by the World Government because of their immense power.

Rhapsody ;; The world that this roleplay takes place in. Its similar to Earth, only twice as large. Technology varies from location to location, but most towns operate with steam technology. There are only two cities that use electricity as an energy source, and they are both in limited use by the World Government. Many places and things in Rhapsody are named after musical terminology.

Rosetta Stone ;; An ancient artifact that held all the world's magic inside it. No one knows of its origins, but it was originally found by Firenze and then later by Reinetta. When it was destroyed by Firenze, the pieces spread throughout the world, each containing a separate type of magic within it.

The Talent ;; The innate ability to become bound with a piece of the Rosetta Stone. Only about .05% of the population is born with The Talent.

Q. Reinetta and Firenze mastered all forms of magic. So can my character learn multiple magic types, too?

A. No. They both bound with the entire Rosetta Stone. Being bound works a bit differently when working with the Stone as a whole, because the Dream Pearl was granting their wishes. Theoretically, the Dream Pearl could grant someone the ability to master any form of magic they wanted.


Q. So, the Free Characters can have any Magic or Rank they want, right?

A. Yes, the only thing I ask is no Summon Magic, as its a plot point I want to bring up later, and that person would be able to erase the demons at their whim. Absolutely no SS-Rank (for now).


Q. When/how do characters officially rank up?

A. Basically a Guild Master sends a request to the World Government. They then review the application and approve or deny the request. So, while Ranks are a good measurement of power, its not perfect. The Rebellious Flame for example, is probably high A/low S Rank. But the government keeps him at B-Rank because they don't want him going on high ranking mission because he causes too much collateral damage.


Q. What do Reinetta and Firenze look like? I need to know! >_<

A. No one can be certain because that was so long ago, but most people think Reinetta looked like a beautiful, but dangerous woman. Firenze, meanwhile, looked unconventionally handsome and dressed as a traditional magician.

In fighting Daeva, Fate’s Crescendo and Phantom King accidentally cause some destruction to Viola Jungle. After some deliberation, the World Government chooses to arrest both guilds. Red Moon, a guild of Enforcer-Mages from the World Government, goes to their guild headquarters and takes them to what's called a "Mage Concerto", which is basically an inescapable island where all these prisoners are.

Mage Concerto refers to the contest that takes place on this island. The government lets the prisoners roam freely on the island, and force them to fight each other to win their freedom. Meanwhile, the members of Red Moon roam the island as well, slowly eliminating prisoners and stirring up trouble.

Another powerful group on the island, Ubiquitous Dawn, was a group of pirates roaming the seven seas that were also caught by Red Moon and put into the Mage Concerto. And hey, who doesn’t love pirates?

The last guild gets to go free. But due to the fact that you would have to get through all other prisoners and Red Moon to do it, no one has ever won their freedom.

I think the really great thing about this potential arc is that there is a lot of room for people to switch sides, interact with both new and existing characters, and fight truly powerful enemies in epic battles. And if you don’t like your current character and would want to create another, the option is always there to leave them behind at the guild and use a new character.
