No rule about bumping your thread per say but over the years bumping for no reason in AT has been filed down to spam and people have been legitimately reported and 'punished' for it. Even a casual 'bump' will be taken as a creator of traffic.

I'm new here, so this is very interesting; tell me more.
I am aware of a few people who I am in a mutual ignoring relationship with and a few random ignores.
I've been an ATer since 05 (albeit only active and in control of a thread since 07) but the AT is super slow. That is why when controversial threads like this turn up the AT sort of becomes a mess. Now I don't mean that offensively, I use the word 'controversial' loosely, due to the fact that it seems you have more argumentative posts in this thread than you do rates. Back to the AT becoming messy: when more and more people are posting nonsense bumps and s**t like that it starts to push other more serious threads off of the first page.This in turn gives them a reason to bump, yadda yadda until eventually we just have a circle of bumps without any real avatar s**t going on. Hence why people get reported for it and thrown under the bus.
People are more lenient when it comes to actual conversation but to be perfectly blunt, calling people ******** and being insulting while being insulted yourself is not kosher. Therefor instead of this thread having passable conversation it's just labeled as a train wreck and thus people won't let it slide. AT isn't as lenient about chatter.
Also I wish to say something which other people have tried and failed to get across. I'm not doing this to be a b***h, I'm not doing this to annoy you, and I'm not doing this to jump on the bandwagon and attack you. I'm doing this because I think your thread experience would better from some changes. And before you ask, I've read through almost every post made in this thread while I was bored.
The first post insults me greatly. Not as an ATer but as someone who has struggled with some pretty serious things in her life relating to suicide and whatnot. (no I won't turn this into a pity party)
The bit about 'I'm not going to tell them to just kill themselves because their avatars are s**t' is crossing the line for ANY post and I think you should remove it. When I read that I physically winced and found it extremely hard to even post in your thread. ATers have never nor would they ever tell someone to kill themselves because their avatar is s**t, they're not ATers if they do. I KNOW that you are not directly saying that they have before, but I have had friends of mine who I mentor about things like this come to me very distraught about it. It would be better for everyone if you removed it in my opinion. Your first post is also quite uninviting (apologies for being a parrot of other comments) but I saw you said 'others are unfazed by my first post' but I think it's just a case of people being too afraid to say anything.
But hey. YOU know more than anyone that you have no reason to listen to me. I just think part of making the AT a better place is to weed out threads like this and to make it a nicer, more inviting rating experience for others. If you'd like to continue a conversation or even ask any more questions I'd be more than happy to have you PM me. Consider me your AT guide in some ways I guess.
