      NOTE:
Please keep all off topic discussion to a minimum.
      Discuss nonmatching avatars.
Discuss the themes and trends in the AT.
Please try not to talk off topic.

What do you consider to be most important in non-matching avatars: good textures and balance of said textures, or good workings with color and that distribution?
It seems that I always get caught up on texture when I'm 'making' a non-matching avatar, since all the items on Gaia are so varied.

I see textural avatars, and I don't really consider them non-matching, I generally just refer to them as textural.
What are your thoughts on the line, if there is one, with textured and non-matching?

Like any style I feel that there has to be a nice balance between the two. Pure texture matching is not nonmatching, and likewise, having beautiful nonmatching does not necessarily mean it's nice texture. But a balance between the two would be what I think is perfect nonmatching. Although if I had to choose something most important would be the colour - Definitely.
Your colour distribution and choices in an avatar can really set the tone and the outfit in general. Whereas a lack of texture can be forgiven, bad colour blending cannot.

I thought a good balance ought to be found, as with most things.
        Glad for the textured clarification.
I usually tend to steer more towards color, in importance, but for me I've got to work with texture too.
Mainly because I hate seeing my head super smooth and then my legs a textured madness.
Whenever I see people rating, I too tend to see them focus on someone's color (distribution, useage, choices, balance, and what not), which is what I think most people focus on when making avs.
