Amazingly, it hasn't fallen into any sequel pitfalls yet.

Legend of Korra, i few years after Aang passed, he along with Fire lord Zuko made a place called republic city where all benders unite. The bad guys are anti-benders (Neutralist)

korra trains air bending with Aang's son (Tenzin) and was trained by Katara with water bending
