But seriously, I think that weekly anime would just look so much better if they put in as much time and effort as the wonderful animators of Avatar the Last Airbender and the Legend of Korra.

I agree with you on the Animation part. I found the animation of Korra to be gorgerous and really wish that some Anime would put more effort into this as well. (not saying there is no Anime with good Animation!) But as far as Animation and love to detail goes I really preferred LoK (and ATLA, but espcially LoK) over lots of Anime.

There are some that are quite beautiful. Say what you will about the plot and whatnot - but the Deathnote anime was animated VERY well.

I think the difference has to do with the budget and how long the series is. The dragon ball series, pokemon etc were several several SEVERAL hundred episodes (and are also much older series) and it would cost a lot more money to get them animated up to snuff. Things like Shiki and Another, by comparison, are much shorter - no longer than 26 episodes, and are animated much more elegantly.

Although, that may also be an issue with regards to their relative ages....

I agree Anime needs more personality. I feel like they are just pleasing anyone who gets butthurt when an anime isn't stereotypical.

Exactly, I have a hard time getting into an anime series if I don't like the art style or if they are just plain sloppy. The art stylizing is a lot of the impact of an anime to me.

Can I just take a moment here to point out the glorious, glorious scenery porn in LoK? I am LOVING the retro 20s-meets-Oriental style. So pretty~! emotion_kirakira
And the animation is spectacular. I mean, look at those pro-bending scenes! Athletes in motion, bending elements, getting hit, showing the strength, effort, and passion in arena sports. It is very, very nice~

Death note plot was perfect and the animation was great. but yeah, the shorter stuff does have more quality.
