Debunking Amon Theories

My friend's current theory is that Amon is the son of Bumi.

It's a possibility, perhaps.

Well, my underlining theory is that whoever you are has to be someone we all know from the original Avatar: Last Airbender. Otherwise, you wouldn't be so secretive.

I highly doubt that. However, I may be wrong. I mean, the series takes place about 75 years into the future (if i'm not mistaken). With that, no matter the age of the person (from the old series) they would be really old in the new series.
What if Amon wears a mask because he has insecurities...

Well, you never know the improvements of their society in 73 years. Who knows?

I think Amon and Tarlac (the rep from the Nothern Water Tribe) are related. I think they want the city for their own. I mean, look at the chronology of things.

-Tarlac wants Korra to join the team that wants to capture Amon.
-Amon wants to defeat Korra

I don't really know who Amon is, but I don't think he is really "energy bending", mostly because the way he takes away the benders bending ability is different then the way Aang did it, not because he isn't glowing or whatever, but the placing of his hands. Where Aang put his hands on the forehead and chest, Amon puts his hands on the back of the neck and the head, and where he puts his hand on the back of the neck, he is hitting one of the most fatal pressure points in the human body called amon.

I'm not saying this is true, but usually the creators give their character's their names for a reason, ad it's too coincidental to be a coincident.

Either way, I'm intrigued by the character.

I agree, and you also bring up a VERY interesting point. I was thinking the same thing as well. There's no way a person, yet alone a non-bender, can fully take away a person's bending. When that happens, as done by Aang, the whole energy of their bending is gone, the spirit and etc (as seen by the bright red and blue lights from Aang and Ozai). Chi-blocking temporarily blocks bending so maybe Amon uses a highly advanced form of it to permanently block the bending-not necessarily take it away. That or, he blocks chakra/ absorbs it to get more power himself which he will then reveal (as said by another person on this post).
Either way, it's adding a great mystery to the series. The fans don't know who Amon is and are going 'crazy'. The series seems to be taking a good path so far.

I personally believe it has something to do with whomever is Sato's benefactor was at the beginning of Sato's inventive days. There is something truly suspicious about Asami Sato, it's always the cute/beautiful ones that are evil.

If not, the series is trying to pull off the biggest red herring I have ever seen, and if they are going to do that they are already charring the poor fish.

I agree! At first, I thought Asami was alright. Then when the scene with the father came in...SUSPICION ALERT!

Amon is not taking away peoples bending, but rather, absorbing/stealing them, and keeping them for himself.

He will save his most dangerous foe-the Avatar-for last, though its debatable whether he'd kill her or keep her locked up.

In any case, he will use all 4 Elements and become a pseudo-avatar, the only bender in the world, and will rule as such.

Just because Tai Lee was the only Chi Blocker we saw in the first series does not mean she was the only Chi Blocker in the world. Really there could be a whole martial art practice teaching Chi Blocking in the Avatar world and Tai Lee was just one of them. She could have been in a school for Che blocking for all we know.

Well some assumptions I have made.

1 I believe he has to be a bender of some sort, somehow he is able to energy bend
2 while I do believe the whole burnt face thing is probably true, I don't think the creators would have gone through the trouble of never revealing his face if they weren't preparing for a "wtf, he's that guy?!"
3 most likely he's either someone we've come to trust during the new series or he is someone who survived from the previous series, someone who grew up filled with bitter anger. It's hard to tell considering how old he'd have to be, so most likely it's the former.
