How do you get your avatar's image in your signature? I could only get the direct link to work, but I've seen people use the actual image that would take you to their page.

I use my signature, and when I do that I make it a point to post a lot in the forums. If you're going to do that, make sure you're nice to people so nobody feels the need to down vote you.
