This is going to be a out of five star rating thread, not really that strong of an opinion, but I'll definitely be dishing it out on a steaming hot plate. I'll probably upload somewhere in the week, so keep a look out for a "!!" in the title, that most likely means I've updated.

This will be how i name the ratings;

5 stars - A true winner! Fantastic job~
4 stars - Quite good. Keep up the good work
3 stars - Not good, but not bad. Keep trying!
2 stars - Hmm... Practice some more and try again
1 star - Not one of my favorites. Try again next time

Introductions

Not really a lot about me; All i can say is that The Arena needs a little bit of work, and i believe some of these entries deserve more credit than they deserve. So, I'll be reviewing both of them, and being truly honest.

If you don't like something i say, then please pm me, and I"ll work to get it fixed. If it's just a bit of trolling, You'll be warned once, and then reported afterwards. I don't bite, spit or yell at you, unless i absolutely feel the need to (which might be never) So, let's just get on with whatever, and I hope you enjoy the read smile

The original's will be placed here, followed by the Cosplays. Since the Cosplays are judged on Accuracy, these will be judged on quality. If it seems like it was made quickly, and thrown in, and won first or second, most likely, it'll be a low rating. Take some time and though on your entries, because ten K is a lot to spend on something that might not even place. And even if you don't win, I"ll pick a few favorites to mention in the "Honorable Mentions" post, a few posts down.

Week 7

1st Place: Magi Adept by AfTK
I don't really think it's first place worthy. Using all those blues is a big challenge, and you used it well. But your color balance is horribly off; Not enough of the same blues in the bottom half, and far too much black as well. I like the top half though; Well, minus the face, which is blank without a mouth, and those HUGE eyes.
Hmm... Practice some more and try again. 2 stars

2nd Place: Live Life As You Like~ by Verocious
What's this? golds that match? That's dedication to your entry. That lamp item I'm actually curious about, I quite like it personally. *sigh* okay, moving on. Your golds are all really well matched, if not spot on. I just wish you matched your hair with your golds; Just something closer to actual gold, instead of the bleach color.
Quite good. Keep up the good work. 4 stars

3rd Place: For a Man Who Lost it All by NostalgiaUltra
The facial expression is SO wrong; He looks like he's frightened instead of heartbroken. The layering you did with the torso is really nice though; it looks like you have an actual suit layered here.
Not good, but not bad. Keep trying! 3 stars

4th Place: Siren of the Lagoon by Auralen
This is really pretty. The background matches the avatar perfectly, you did a phenomenal job with the background, so that it matched the amount of work you must have put into the avatar. The mermaid tail that peaks out (At least i think it's a mermaid tail) really is a beautiful touch to this. I realy can't find a minus in this, so it's great.
A true winner! Fantastic Job~ 5 stars

5th Place: Chinese Zodiac 2012: Ox by Lady Eldae
"their feet firmly planted on the ground." I didn't know that meant you had to be pidgeon-toed for that. There's just a lot that doesn't read Ox; Th colors do, they're nice. But I don't see anything else that does; The odd facial expression, the tail which i could barely find, and a lot of overlayering, especially in the head, don't add anything to this.
Not one of my favorites. Try again next time. 1 star

6th Place: Masquerade of Ravens by Kuyusi
These colors are incredible. I just want to rip that frilled hat right off of her head; It's not doing anything, except sitting there. There's a lot of gray also in the arms, and not anywhere else. But all your textures are really working, including those striped pants, and that mask. great job.
Quite good. Keep up the good work. 4 stars

7th Place: Victorian by Bee`
Really pretty colors in this. Details are also quite nice, and i really like the skin and eyes you used in this. But those shoes, again, are murdering this; The feet position of them make it not very pretty. If it weren't for the shoes, this would be perfection.

8th Place: Desdemona the Aristocrat by The Comic Book Heroine
I'm missing something to do with Money. Maybe I'm just craving something painfully obvious, but i would have liked have someone's money in your hand. Avatar wise, some of the black i wish would have blended better, i think it's mainly the Pistolera. I also wish the hair was slightly shorter. The golds are really beautiful, and the layering works really well here as well.

9th Place: Rainbow Fantasy by ScentOfLavenderSyndrome
Most of your outfit is pinks and whites, yet you should have done a mostly rainbow outfit, instead of just one rainbow item and a whole bunch of pink and blue and white. I don't see wings, and i don't see even a trace of smile; I understand it's secret, but if even a small hint of it was peeking out from underneath the scarf, It would make more sense.
Not one of my favorites. Try again next time. 1 star

10th Place: Fireworks by Its Meark
I'd recite the obvious song, but i won't. Up in the top left corner, there's a lot of spacing, then there's clusters of the stuff with no space in the bottom of the fireworks. The top right corner is a circle of fireworks, which really sticks out against all of the unshaped fireworks.
Quite good. Keep up the good work. 4 stars

Help on Arena Entries

THis is the post you'll probably want to read, because it might help some of you quite a bit.

So, basically, if you have an entry that you want to enter, but aren't QUTE sure if you will get 5 stars, then here's where you can come to ask a few questions to get a few rates. Of course, you can always ask someone else to help, but you never know; these might be of some use

Each rate comes with what i would rate you in the Arena. After that, you may pick two of these ratings. I'll probably take a few minutes, so i can really thing about what I'm trying to say. So don't expect a two minute review.

Balanced - Is your avatar top heavy? Or is it just unbalanced, in something else?
Smooth - Does your avatar go smoothly from head to toe? This one plays in with the "Balanced" rating a bit, so you know
Jarring - Is something REALLY sticking out to you, but you need a different set of eyes? This is what this is for
Rainbow - Are you missing colors somewhere? Or does something stick out? Ask for this to find out
Opinion - I'll just give a quick blurb on what i think on your avatar~

I appreciate the commentary and hope you understand that while the undergarment was awkward, it was just a slight layering issue that I could not avoid in order to get that cream color on the lower half. See the underwear is part of Professor Hana which is a very nice skirt but does have the underwear that layers over things. It's not a huge issue for me since I myself just go with it as a triangular part of the outfit but I can see why it would bother you.

Also, the wind up dolls were a group entry. There were a lot of good entries from that group so it's kind of no surprise some of them made it into top ten.

I wonder that a lot of your reviews are based on color matching. While this is of course important in creating an avatar, its not everything. Themed avatars do not always match perfectly, but the avatar itself is still well-made. Personally, I prefer an avatar that has a theme or a story behind it to one that simply throws same-shade colors on. Both are challenging sometimes, but an avatar with a story, to me, has more thought put into it. Perhaps you could take this into account when you review as well. smile
