I adore the use of soft lavender with the black and dark blue of the background, it gives her a very ethereal, other-worldly look that is perfect for the theme, and also creates some awesome contrast for the detailing to really pop. Creative use of items, especially the wave item to break up the bottom of that dress, the only thing I'd suggest would be a little bit more detail on her headdress to balance out all the business of the bodice.
The Bottom Line: Great color choice with a clear theme, beautiful overall look.




The Fortune Tellers Spirit

Eeeeeh I'm not really feeling this one. The dress is a bit of a mess with the combination of the petals and smoke, from the waist-down it just looks like a blob to me. I enjoy the color choices but the balance is really off, the face feels empty in combination with that hat (which is in desperate need of some sort of complementing accessory to break up the blue) while the swirls, crystal ball and purple details throughout the rest clutter it and make it unbalanced.
The Bottom Line: Good concept and color choice, but sloppy execution.




DDD: Collecting Dust

There are pros and cons to this to be sure. I really love how the hairpiece glimmers and almost looks like a cobweb, same with all the detailing throughout the avatar's bodice, which adds to the "dusty" look. I think the main thing that makes this fall a bit for me is the conflicting textures; while they do all come together to illustrate the theme, the way the body has been handled is a little too "twinkly", and ultimately looks a bit like a bikini to me. I would have loved to see a more dressy outfit for this, with the same level of detailing on the texture, just with a more doll-like silhouette.
The Bottom Line:Great use of texture and a surprising success with monochrome, but not loving the silhouette.




Vaguely Avian

Vague is definitely the first word that comes to mind when I look at this. While the colors are working somewhat, the shapes are all over the place. It looks lumpy, like a pile of clothing and feathers rather than a pulled-together concept. I like the design of the headpiece, it's a shame that the dress breaks down the attention to detail by sitting there like a big lump and ruining the silhouette. Also, the use of dull browns doesn't work here, I think sticking with the warm dark brown, cream and gold would have helped to make this much more appealing.
The Bottom Line: Confusing silhouette, concept, and color scheme.




Hemera - The Birth of Light

Eeh. This is just a mess of pastel to my eyes. I actually really enjoy a few isoltaed elements of this, the movement of the sash with the choice of legs and the use of light effects is enchanting, but the actual outfit is incredibly confusing to look at. The hair choice is distractingly dark, and while it brings attention to the face, it needs to be balanced a bit. The torso is a clump of odd details that I can't even begin to read, and the colors are all over the place without any rhyme or reason.
The Bottom Line: A messy pile of sparkles and pastel that leaves me feeling confused.




RoE: Northern Flock

Overall, this is really lovely. The subtle use of teal, white and dark blue creates a great flow to this avatar, and illustrates a clear character. I love the use of this face, and the choice for the wings are a very welcome surprise. The only thing I'm not feeling here is the construction on the dress; while I enjoy the details I feel they need to be broken up a bit with a softer texture. The opposite can be said for the head, which is too simple and could use a nice silvery textured accessory to tie it in with the detail on the dress.
The Bottom Line: Beautiful and subtle color choices, with a creative use of some rarely seen wings.




DDD: Lindy Dolly

My first impression of this is that it's a bit too simple, but after looking it over a little longer, it's grown on me. The items chosen blend together very nicely, and I love the balance of yellow across the blue/pink core items. That said, it's not really a jaw-dropper for me, the overall concept and execution are pretty basic, and to really make it stand out this needs a bit more innovation and detail. I'd love to see a combination of items making up a hat creation, along with something like an apron through the middle to break up the large chunk of pattern on that dress.
The Bottom Line: Cute and well-done for the simplicity of it, but it needs a bit more to finish it off.




DDD: My Broken Dolly

I want to like this, because the colors are quite haunting and I enjoy the concept, but the execution just isn't there for me on this one. The skirt combo is a nice complement to the two-toned hat, but the bodice makes the outfit break-down with the mass of detail completely unbalancing the rest of it. I love the face, but it would really help this to simplify the use of texture and replace it with a good coordination of black/cream fabric items instead. Either that, or distribute the detail throughout the rest of the dress to break up the bodice and make it less of a distracting focal point.
The Bottom Line: Interesting concept, but it falls short in the construction and unbalanced use of texture.




DDD: Jeweled Fix for Firenze

This hearkens back to the days of clutter, and for the most part, I'm feeling it. The red/blue/gold with underlying black is very visually interesting, and I read a lot of feathery textures here that aren't necessarily feathered items. The only thing holding this back for me is color balance, which is essential for clutter. With the use of that beak for the theme, this really needs to have a black base, but instead the bottom half is focused around white, which makes the gold detailing harder to read, and unbalances the top from the bottom. A red sash or detail through the middle along with underlying black hues would make this spectacular.
The Bottom Line: Great use of texture and cluttered color, but a bit unbalanced and confused in the end.

Boundary of the Sky

The thing I love most about this is how surreal it is. The heart of this revolves around the face, which is haunting and beautiful. I love the use of makeup and accessories to bring detail into the otherwise simple base. The background is perfect for this character, and really drives home the surrealism. While I like the lack of legs, I feel like the execution of the bottom half of this could be better; it feels slightly unfinished, though I feel the main reason for this is the fact that there aren't any other background items, which makes the bottom feel really bare.
The Bottom Line: Surreal and beautiful; I adore the concept but it could use some additions to make it more complete.




Oriental Demon

This hearkens back to the old days for me; it's basically a matching avatar, with a theme thrown in for fun. I love the bright red/purple/gold combo, as well as the excellent composition of outfit items to pull it all together. The only thing I don't like so much about this is the jinxi's charm skirt, though it works for color, it feels flat on top of the combinations that make the rest of this flow so well.
The Bottom Line: Oldschool matching at its best, a great combination of theme and striking color.




FTTA: Napoleonic Fashion

Here we have a great example of beauty in simplicity. While my only critique on this would be to add a bit more detail, I do find the simple design to be refreshing. It's pretty much spot-on for the theme, and the item choices work perfectly together. I love the head accessory with that hair, and the shawl blends beautifully with the train of the dress. The big block of white is the only thing I don't love, but at the same time it doesn't really detract from the overall look, mostly it just makes it a little less captivating because there's less to look at.
The Bottom Line: Simple and beautiful, with fabulous accuracy for the theme.




GL2: Gymleader Celeste

The best way I could classify this would be controlled chaos. The consistent lines of motion are awesome, I love how there is a swirling motion throughout the whole avatar that pulls the whole thing together. The white and blue with spots of black are very interesting, and create a unique set of focal points that feel more abstract than anything else. The face is really my only issue with this one, it feels separated from the look of the rest of this due to the large patch of skin-tone along with the lack of texture.
The Bottom Line: Great motion and color balance, love the texture and character but the face is distracting.




GL2 - Corex [Final]

This is a really awesome use of that helmet, usually when you see it on an avi, there isn't much going on aside from the helmet, and there's a ton of reliance on it, but this has been constructed fabulously. All the touches of blue tie into the "striped" sort of look the helmet has, and the items chosen to tie in the black and complete the character are perfect. The only thing I could criticize about this is the way the background was handled; I like how the moon really highlights the character, but the snow effects are a little too overbearing. I feel something less cluttered would have made it easier to focus on how awesome the actual character is, but as it is now my eye gets distracted very quickly.
The Bottom Line: Awesome character design, and a creative and artful use of a helmet item that usually overpowers any avatar it's used with.




FTTA: Victorian Era
♣3.5/5♣
I don't dislike this, but at the same time it leaves me feeling a little bored. It illustrates Victorian fashion beautifully, but I think it's a combination of the blue/black, as well as the face that has me yawning. The dress combos work very well, I adore the construction to death, but I think some of that grey and maybe a subtle accent color would help this a lot as far as breaking out of the boring and into the fabulous.
The Bottom Line:Lovely construction and balance, but not a particularly interesting or captivating design visually, at least to my eyes.




GL2: Gymleader Waverly

This is a wacky and fun character, which I really love, though I don't see any of the original character design in this to be honest. I get that she's grown up and come into her own, but this almost looks like a boy, a little bit more femininity would tie in the original design a bit better. That said, I really love the outfit design and the incorporation of the companion with clever background element layering. The coat works well with the skirt/pants, and I love the dynamic feel this has, looks like the coat is being swept up by the motion of the water or something. Only thing about the outfit is that it could use a black element through the middle to help break up all that blue and make it easier to read.
The Bottom Line:A bit too far from the original version to really be tied together, but dynamic, clever and charming in its own right!




GL2: Psychic Makenshi

I really like how this harkens back to the original Pokemon characters, with both the style of the character's design as well as the color choices. I enjoy the use of the coat here and the combination of black and pale purple to fit in with the companion. The main issue I have with this is the pants, which are overly simple, and also are very difficult to read with the background chosen, so the effect makes her look kind of like an amputee or something. It'd be one thing if she's supposed to look like a floating torso, but I dont' think that was the goal here.
The Bottom Line: Interesting and full of visual history as far as the theme is concerned, but the legs just aren't quite right and are really distracting from the rest of this.




GL2 : [START] ♀ Protagonist

This is a really interesting color combination; I love the use of that background to simulate a lab or office of some sort for this character to be starting out from. It has a lot of "beginning spirit", like when you set off on a great adventure with lots of pomp and circumstance. I love the blue with red/yellow, and it is a nice contrast to the reve rouille companion. I'm not so hot on the face, the closed eyes make it difficult to engage with this character. Also the layering on the top/skirt feels really choppy and messy, and while the colors work with the hat, it makes it difficult to read exactly what's going on.
The Bottom Line: Great color choices and an original look for sure, could use some cleaning up however as the outfit is a bit messy.
