This one, right? (but with a different hair/skin combo, although I think the African-American combo works all right) He's wearing two Pietros, which isn't as bad as I thought (it's the gun and the scarf, I think, so they aren't matchy-items, either). I spent a long time looking for backgrounds when I made him -- even posted in the item thread in the Lounge asking for help -- and even with Mag and everyone's' help, I couldn't come up with anything. But there have been some new items since then and I may have luck with the Modus or something from a RIG. Maybe the... I don't remember what it's called, but there's a very film-noir sort of background with a soft filter. Hrm.

Yeah, I recognized the avatar from before, it's one of my favorites of yours! What is the makeup/facepaint? I really love it.

Yeah that avatar is the one I remember. If you want advice/help I'm totes here for you. ^-^ I like it better with the medium tone skin, but either way the two pietro items there aren't particularly noticeable. It's just when people use things that are "supposed" to go together, like pretty much any combo of the "Rosamund" items. Two is usually the max before people start to raise eyebrows.

I'm currently working on my first cosplay entry since I did "Rainbow Brite" aaages ago. I'm kinda nervous about it, but from what I can see the cosplay arena is much more forgiving than the original arena.

Okay, the Asphalt Jungle is amazing simply for lighting effects, as it seems to layer under a lot of other background items. Totally worth the purchase even if it doesn't work for this avatar. 4laugh

Did you know in your dressup window, if you do a search for "all gaia", you can try things on with your av so you know what they'll look like. :3 That's how I made my cosplay avatar for the hag enchantress from Beauty and the Beast, haha. It's a great option for cheapskates. ninja

As far as backgrounds, the biggest thing is layering elements. Like, you've got one background item there, if you could combine 2-3 background items/elements it makes the whole thing more interesting (in my humble opinion. razz )

Yeah, I know how to use the search function, but items are tagged so inconsistently I have trouble with finding anything. razz I just picked up an Asphalt Jungle, a Rogue Bravado, and a Derelict Cityscape. :3 I have a hard time knowing what will layer over/under, though... it's all so random.

This background is another Pietro and it's just about perfect, but the colors change based on which direction my avatar is facing. XD NEAT EFFECT, BUT... Plus again, it's only one item and it's on the same layer as most of the items that give lighting effects, like the Asphalt Jungle. I can get some foreground effects... Maybe find a streetlamp? I dunno.

I love the red too, but it seems like it's the blue version that would be submitted if I take it to the arena. Le sigh. You can't flip the avatar, either. Why can't it just be animated or something like that?

As for blue details, now I'm almost starting to like the contrast between the blue and the red. rofl But I don't think that would fly in the arena, so off I go! The scarf should be easy to replace, but the shirt may be tougher. Hrmmm.

Well, if you could find a red item for the background, then some blue items for your avatar, I think that would fly very well. ninja And it makes it kind of like..."cop car" colored, which is a cool thematic element considering he looks like a fleeing criminal or something. rofl

Honestly, I feel like for some of the weeks it's just like, "which one sucks the LEAST". People complain about the arenas now, but MAN there was some really terrible stuff in there in years gone by.

I'm so far not seeing a particularly consistent improvement, however I am seeing an increasing volume of cosplays with each week. ;~; For week 51 of 2007, 7 out of the 10 winners are cosplays. crying

The creation of the cosplay arena was the best idea ever. rofl

Looks basically the same as the last version, to be honest. rofl If you're going to incorporate the blue as well, the blue and red will have to make more of a presence than just minor accents. But that's kind of part of the charm of the whole thing, so it's a tough nut to crack.

I shall fiddle a bit and see if I can come up with any ideas. ninja

I was also playing with using the Centre de la Terre like you are using, which gives an interesting warm glow over the whole thing.

And I don't know if it helps, but I wrote up a drabble for him:
