I just dropped from 40th to 54th in the span of about 25 minutes. I went from a 4.00 to a 3.86.

My feelings are actually hurt. gonk (but I know they shouldn't be)

                    Hopefully i get placed somehow~
Oh and this isn't part of my post.
Well, I know how you feel, today I have definitely had extreme down voting! It is sad but true. I have come to the conclusion that the arena is flawed in many ways and is not a good place to express creativity! Your avi's will never be fairly rated with all of the dishonest down voting people that are out to win. They bring friends, Guilds, and the many "Mule" accounts that they have to uprate their submissions and down rate everyone else. sad It is sad, I have seen with my own eyes the great avi's in the arena this week, some absolutely amazing! ---> but I am sure that they to are being down voted...

It doesn't really matter who voted. Hell, I even love voting avatar 1's sometimes without saying anything. biggrin
??????? May I ask what pleasure you get out of that?? It may not matter to you------> but it does matter to the ones who have spent countless hours working on an Avi and have presented it to the Arena for judgement.!!!!!!!!! scream talk2hand

WHAT. THE. HELL. Do you get your kicks from people wishing they could rip your head off or something? (I don't literally mean that.) People here want honesty. We want to see the avatars that truly deserve to be in the top ten in the top ten! If you really do that, please stop. You're only being part of the problem.

Everyone I think the person is just trying to troll people/get a reaction, they had made a thread as well about them downvoting.

I wish we couldn't even VOTE if we have an entry in... but then people will just use mules anyway....
UGH. I don't even VOTE when I have an entry, cause it makes me feel ROTTEN either way.

Low vote = Is this WRONG even though I genuinely feel an entry is bad?
High vote = I feel rotten cause I feel like I'm undercutting myself.

I've totally voted myself out of top 10 before.. if an avatar is good it gets my vote, even if it means might pass my rank, I vote rather I am in the arena or not... there aren't enough voters anymore as is =/

I hate downvoting, it ruins it for the good avatars and some of the avatars in the winners circle really suck.
Give avatars a good luck and vote what they're worth please!

Edit: I think the AT is a much better place to go and see if your avi is any good..
20 ranks down within an hour. @_@

So do I. :]
Honestly because some of them shouldn't even have been entered and there isn't much I could possibly say to them besides:
"EFFFFFFFF IDIOT DON'T ENTER JUNK LIKE THIS AGAIN!"
Downvoting (which evidently is an absolute figment of our collective imagination) encourages mediocrity in every which way. Not only in the sense that usually only mediocre avatars place in the top ten (with exceptions of course) but also on an individual level.

I notice that the more average the avatar I submit is, the less it is downvoted because it is seen as less of a threat to the downvoters. My better avatars, or the ones that I personally feel are better, are more militantly downvoted. If an avatar of mine is featured in a favourites thread it actually seems to bring out even more downvoters so is actually counterproductive if the goal is to win in the arena. But being put in a favourites thread, to me, is rewarding in and of itself.

Thankfully, I've given up my urge to even place in the arena a long time ago and just recently decided to use it more as a way to take a snapshot in time of my avatars. It is much less maddening this way.

---

That all said, the way that I always imagined the arena could be cleansed of those pesky downvoters is a multifaceted operation.

First off, mules should not be allowed to vote. An account should have certain requirements they must meet to be eligible to vote. At least so many posts or something of that nature. This step really goes without saying and should have been implemented ages ago in my opinion.

Next, a warning should appear somewhere within the arena that downvoters will be temporarily banned from the arena. Even if nobody was ever -actually- banned for it, the warning itself may -ever so slightly- serve as a deterrent, much like an empty police car positioned on the side of a road may slow down speeders.

And finally, and this is by far the toughest step, is Gaia admins have to pull their heads out of the sand on downvoting. Whatever admin it was that said downvoting doesn't exist knows the truth, they just didn't want to commit to fixing it. If a substantial portion of the arena-using public all agree that downvoting exists, which is clearly obvious they do and it does, then for an admin to refute that with whatever numbers they want to make up is ludicrous.

A 1 vote should be reserved for the worst of the worst - avatars that are so bad the make your eyes bleed and your head hurt. I know taste is subjective but there are many avatars that would never, ever deserve a 1 vote. Well, guess what..? An admin has the magical powers to see if someone is going around giving decent, good and great avatars 1 votes (or at least I would think that they could). They should then be issued a warning and if they still insist on downvoting then they receive a temporary arena ban. The worst offenders should be permanently banned. This would require an admin to seriously commit to this, at least for a time until the downvoters were sufficiently frightened, so I have no false assumptions that this final step will ever be taken.

I just got

Quote:
sick of seeing this movie cosplays never heard of the moive and it sound like it sucks 1/5

Thanks. a*****e.
Don't vote for the actual COSPLAY or anything. stare

Then I got this.
Quote:
try something other than avatar.srry

Which doesn't even make any sense! scream
Down voting to me is much the same as users pushing for Artificial Inflation. They care not about others on the subject only to satisfy their own sick enjoyment of watching all the BAAAAAAAWWWING threads created about it while they sit back and laugh to their hearts content. 3nodding

I wished the arena wasn't created and that the Gaia Admins picked the winner like they did many years ago. (They can't now, due to being too busy with work that they have yet to focus on *cough*Pietro's Case*cough* and other useless projects around the site, when more serious matters need tending to first.)
