Everyone in this forum sings that same tune. We went to one of the devs with it and he was like: There is no proof of downvoting. Then he pulled a graph out of his butt from I think a very good week in the arena and was like: Lawlz pruf iz her.

I must have missed that. O:

Do you have a link to anything about it? I'd like to read that.

It was in some topic in the SF that I think Asher/Felix posted (can't remember the specific account >.> wink . It was a really long time ago, I doubt that as fast as SF moves it's anywhere near the top 10 pages, hell even the top 100 pages XD But, yeah, he did say that and basically tried to make us look like fools by showing us a chart that "proves" that the average vote is a 3. Yeah, OK, well, if you check out the top ten winners, they're not below a 4. You have to work to get a vote OVER the average, assuming that chart was even real. Personally, with some of the avatars the regulars here make, I would consider a 3 a downvote.

Yes, compared to the top ten scores, 3 can be a downvote. You need mostly 4s and 5s to get into the top ten. Raters know that.

I've always thought that a comment requirement for voting below a three would be a good idea if the arena was a focal point of the site. They're not going to waste time programming that, they can't even waste time to program an automatic rollover that actually works XD

Also, you can lie in comments. So you can tell someone that you voted a 5 and actually vote them a 1. Unless you take away the ability for anyone who votes over a three to comment, it would be impossible to distinguish the two if people decide to be dishonest, which they would.
I had not thought of that, You are right! Maybe if:System not allow a vote below a 3 without a multiple choice selection checked. If the person is willing to check a selection, then his vote will go through but he also will be revealed, if unwilling to reveal & check, then he will be unable to vote! Only enable this feature on votes 3 & below???? IDK, I just know that there HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY OR THE ARENA WILL NEVER BE A FAIR PLACE TO COMPETE, or even have your work evaluated, Heck~ they dont even leave comments as to why they vote the way they do & I think that is what most of us are looking for>> HONEST OPINIONS! 3nodding

I know it sucks...last year when I entered on the last night I was in the top 2 and thought to myself "well might as well go to bed I'm sure I won't fall with this 4.5 average" next morning when they announced the winners I was thinking "why am I not place?!?" then I looked at my average and saw my 4.5 dropped to a 3.1 average....

You'll know when you win because your gold will increase and you'll have a pm from a mod or something telling you congrats and stuff.
I know that...I meant to say I was confused when I logged on

Hey, just an idea that popped into my head after reading everything here but maybe the arenas would have more honesty if everybody had to comment on an avatar if they wanted to rate it. There would have to be a minimum number of characters in each comment so people couldn't get away with just "cool", "nice cool ", or any other "statement" that tells people close to nothing. Sure there may be less votes but at least there would be more honesty. Maybe something similar to this or anything else said in the thread would help.

Sounds pretty good to me... anything would be better than the current system! 3nodding

I know how you feel, I have been down voted so many times when I bring out a new avi in the arena.

It is sad really that people can be soooo dishonest & not have any integrity. Gaia is supposed to be a fun, happy place ----> The arena is supposed to be a place where creativity can be expressed and get honest feedback, unfortunately there always has to be someone out there that feels the need to ruin things for others so that they can gain, and they dont even feel guilty about it exclaim
dude i know!!! and then whenn you go and see what THEIR avi submitions are like, they're really bad haha... i HATE how unfair it can be. its called ethics people. Get some haha

I really like the idea. 3nodding This is my first time submitting an avatar in the arenas and by people honestly telling me what they thought, whether good or bad, would help greatly in improving and such.
I know how you feel. My last tow entries're in the top X. One was even VII. Then the brainless sharks came.

Or at least keep the petty/childish spite stuff at bay... I don't see how anyone can enjoy a win when it's gotten unfairly. =/

I still wonder if removing the reward for winning would help at all(I know some people wouldn't like that) since then people wouldn't try to cheat to win that 50k, which so many don't realize they could get easier and have more of a chance of getting for that matter by playing booty grab etc.

I just went from a 4.17 to a 3.90 in about 3 seconds. .___.

At least when people used to get 3-4 hundred votes a week, downvoting wasn't as devastating as is it is now. [or so I hear.]

What I wonder is if maybe a more precise voting system, x/10 or being able to vote half stars, for example would help downvoting, or hinder it.

something needs to be done, the fact 1 bad vote does so much more damage then 1 good vote really lends an advantage to the downvoters.
