and it might have been but I just know the reference from What shall we do with the drunken sailor (make his kiss the captain's daughter) - which meant flog him the the cat o'nine tails. Could be you are thinking of kissing the Gunners daughter which was essentially the same thing but being strapped to the cannon during the punishment (instead of the mast).
