Or we might all get murdered. Next to the basement, attics are the most used place for death in horror movies.

Some people just like being in out-of-way places. And there is something charming about an attic. It's probably the concept of being on the highest floor of the house, surrounded by plenty of old things. It lends an aura of mystery and the possibility of discovery. Most attics are not readily accessible--that's why they're mainly used for storage instead of regular living space.
