Deep beneath the earth, miles underneath the surface where the sun never shines there is an entirely new world, full of unmerciful creatures and monsters that lurk in the total darkness, waiting for prey.
In this setting our Drow campaign takes place. The following two characters are NPCs (Non-player-characters) of mine.
- Fear not. It wouldn't help you anyway. -
At one point in the drow campaign, the Player characters (PCs) and the highpriestess Mandilia in particular made the acquaintance of Shur. Shur are a cross-breed between drow and demons. They were represented (at first) by Highpriestess Cassandra and her loyal guard Timor.
Timor visited Mandilia often, delivering small presents from his mistress and even smaller presents from himself. He would often visit Mandilia with a good wine and just spend a pleasant evening with her. At that point the other PCs didn’t even know of his existence.
Later an army of Shur attacked the drow city Madilia and the other PCs were living in. At that time Timor would talk to Madilia, so that her group would escape the city unharmed (and with this making victory for his army a lot easier). He promised to contact them again, when things would’ve settled down.
Facts:
Attributes:
Truthfully he doesn’t have stats of that kind yet. I imagine his strength remarkably, and maybe even more so his charisma. He is very intelligent and quick (if he has to).
Age: appears to be between 25 and 30, but you really can’t tell
Deity: Lolth (chaotic evil "Queen of Spiders", Goddes of Spiders and the Drow)
Height: 1,65 m
Class: Black Guard (~ evil Paladin)
Race: Shur. Shur are a mix between drow and demons. From their outer appearance they carry most drow traits. They are more demonic looking, though, with large bat-like wings on their back. Shur are – in general – as aggressive, self-confident to the point of arrogance and dangerous as drow, probably even more. Timor’s teeth might show beginnings of fangs (slightly).
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Eye : His eyes will appear a bit more demonic than usual drow eyes. They glow slightly (or a bit more, your choice) and look more evil. Their color is highly unnatural, maybe white, red, azure or a strange shade of yellow.
Hair: His hair is a blinding mix of white and silvery blue. I imagine it to be quite straight, maybe a bit wavy. I think it will probably reach not lower as his chin, but do what you think suits him best ^^ Maybe
like this, or
like that
Skin: His skin is matte black. In certain lights it may appear greyish.
Clothing styles:
-
Casual wear: Timor wears long robes (only made off the finest – and most expensive – materials), often in black or blue, or a mix of both. Occasionally you will see him in something blood-red. He might wear more eccentric clothing designs, but only from the way his clothes are designed and cut. His clothes will always carry a simple elegance, from the way they were made and cut, but not from decorations. They will mostly carry very subtle decorations, more often with demonic motives than with spider motives.
-
Adventuring gear: He wears a full plate. The thing has many decorations. Skulls (not many), demonic runes and decorations, and a few spider (-webs?) are worked into it. It has dangerous armor spikes in many places. For the most part it is crafted from pitch black metal (adamantium). The other parts are delicate silvery (mithril, probably) decorations, and the edges of the single pieces are crafted from a deep blue (aquamarine? Maybe Prussian blue?), that seems to glow slightly (but in fact doesn’t, it just seems that way).
Weapons:
He carries an enourmous two-handed sword with him. Think Siegfried from Soulcalibur, or even more so Guts' sword (Berserk).
Magic:
- Timor can communicate telepathically with any creature in a range of 36 m (as long as he speaks its language).
- Timor can cast an area of total darkness, dancing lights, faerie fire and acid arrows.
- Timor also has a rather small selection of divine spells.
* Timor doesn’t use Magic very often, and usually only when he has no other choice or if it would be utterly stupid not to. He wants to keep people in the dark about most of his abilities
*
Other things of Importance
Personality:
Timor is a smart and loyal guy. He follows his mistress without questions, but would without hesitation work without her knowing of it, if it wouldn’t harm her and would give him or both of them an advantage. She knows of that and approves.
He is very stoic and warm in a certain kind of way. He will not loose his temper easily, on the opposite. He will keep secrets given to him, until the most fortunate moment (fortunate for him) arises to release them. He will also go out and seek to find out secrets and information of any kind, for savekeeping until the appropriate moment arises.
He feels the arrogance that comes along with knowing your race is superior to most other races, but not as strong as most other Shur. He doesn’t see his race as god-like, and believes they’re mortal, too, which makes him more careful and less reckless than most of his sisters and brothers.
Appearance:
As you can see throughout the text, I have only a vague image of him in my head, so you are basically allowed to draw however you think he would look best (without changing basic parts, like changing his skin to green or something like that). I’m really looking forward to what you can come up with for him

In the pretty city our PCs (player characters => the characters the actual players played) lived in there were many nice and interesting things. On of them was the merchant Murat , who traveled all the way from Calimport (a city inhabited by humans, comparable with very huge Arabic trading cities) to the Underdark to sell his goods. Which was all in all the reason he wasn’t killed at sight. He sold usual upper world goods (something very “chic” in the Underdark), magical items and slaves.
One of the PCs, Fornea (a high-born drow, noble-woman) once asked him to get a “special” slave for her (the neighbors had bought a gold elf before that and she needed something to beat that). When Murat visited the next time he had a very special slave for Miss Fornea: Hermes.
Facts:
Attributes:
Strength (physical strength): 13
Dexterity: 20
Constitution: 12
Intelligence: 19
Wisdom: 15
Charisma: 18
(For all attributes “10” is human average, the maximum for a human usually is 18, attributes may increase as the character grows old, but at birth a human cannot have more than that.)
Age:
unknown, seems timeless, in a way
Height: 1,69
Race:
unknown. He carries huge feathery wings on his back. When he first arrived in the drow city they were cut off (looked
like this), but slowly they regenerated.
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Eye : His eyes are a very milky shade of blue looking something
like this.
Hair: His hair is silvery blue (very bright) and constantly seems to flow a bit with the wind (even if there’s no wind). It’s very long and a bit wavy (might be because it constantly seems to be flowing).
Skin: His skin is milky and bright, maybe carrying the slightest hint of blue. It's shimmering slightly.
Clothing styles:
- Slaves are not allowed any clothes. Period. This especially applies to this slave. He’s butt-naked, save for a collar around his neck, that blocks his magical powers.
- Before and after he was a slave: He would wear “normal” adventuring gear and comfortable clothes, that would also them to flow a bit (like his hair) mostly held in bright colors.
Weapons:
Slaves are not allowed any weapons.
Before and after he was a slave: No idea, think something up ^^;;
Magic:
*Due to the collar around his neck he can’t cast magic or use any spell-like abilities*
Hermes is able to cast many “light” spells. He can also cast spells that use positive energy.
He can naturally see in the dark.
Other things of Importance:
Being a slave in a drow city:
As a slave he is bound to do whatever his master says. Fornea treated him rather well for a slave, trying to get him to trust her (it’s so much more delicious to see that trust shatter into pieces at the right moment). But when she was gone he was at the mercy of Fornea’s family (mother specifically). Under her command he was often tortured, abused, beaten and generally mistreated. Fornea later asked her family not to do that, and they listened to her (most of the time anyway).
He is convinced, that drow are a pack of monsters. Fornea always wanted to fuel that thought, taking him to religious sacrificial ceremonies (extremely cruel, slow, painful and “creative” death of intelligent humanoids to please Lolth), and showing him that they in fact are monsters, but on the other hand treating him extremely well (for a slave anyway), to gain his trust.
In the long run he saw through it and bounded with the bard of the PC group (male bard), to some degree, trying to improve his chances if not for escape for a more pleasant life at the least.
When the city was destroyed by the Shur he luckily escaped to the surface. He might appear later in the campaign again, or as an NPC for an entirely different party.
His “Mistress”:
Fornea is a drow noble-woman. She also belongs to one of the most progressive hunting groups of the city (the PC party). She combines both the knowledge of spells from books and intuitive magic (Sorcerer/mage). She rarely let’s her face be seen and mostly wears a long, thick black coat. He’s slowly transforming into a half-shadow-dragon, and will have a shadowy structure shimmering around her (think “Nazghoul”, “Ring Wrath”).
Personality:
Hermes is extremely good natured and strong willed. It took very long until he accepted the fact that he was a slave and a part of him never acknowledged it. He is smart and sensitive and stubborn beyond believe. He is always willing to help and very empathetic to those suffering.
Drawing him:
I’ll leave you a lot of freedom about him, but to tell the truth I’d like most of his pictures during his time as a slave. If you’re very uncomfortable with drawing naked people give him some sort of clothes around his crotch, but only if you feel too uncomfortable with it otherwise.
Reference Picture:
Also Hermes looks somewhat similar to Tetiyus from Seimaden. His build is compareable and so are his wings (though brighter). His eyes and face are a bit different (not much though) and his hair is more wavy and brighter and more silvery. ^^ Here are some pics of Tetiyus:
