Glad to hear you're doing alright. Sucks to be so busy all the time though. I can't honestly say I can relate, despite having a load of commissions lined up... I'm not technically busy till I work on them, all the time. And I don't [probly should >.>] Heheh.. But, uh, anyway... How do you manage all these things at the same time? I'd assume you'd want a little time to relax and do the things you want to do, instead of school and commissions. -shrug-

well that would be true if i considered doin commissions a JOB
i do it cuz i WANT to and ENJOY it, so technically I'm busy and able to relax whenever i draw anything, and i always have my sketchbook with me so relaxing is really easy. as long as you love what you do, life is good 3nodding

Heh, I see what you mean. ^^ Though I enjoy drawing, I get real caught up in who's better at it than I am, and so the greatest thing holding me back is the thought that no matter how good I get, there's still some guy blowing my art out of the water. >.>...

Heheh, so as you can imagine, it gets pretty stressful when one focuses entirely on making it a competition. I'll have to try and change my perspective or something... <.<

that's exactly right
and that's my biggest job is to change exactly that attitude in aspiring artists
if you look at it with competition then no, it's never ending battle. you'll never be the best because there's no artist alive who learns everything in one lifetime. and all it takes is the realization that there's always gonna be e bigger fish, but not everybody's fishing for the bigger fish
find your flavor and realize that it's only your own abilities that you need be concerned with.

Yeah =] Thanks, that's real good advice. I've been told before, and agree, that it's not about who's the best artist, considering that there's no true standard for art due to the literally endless variations in styles, so the best thing anyone can do is master their style to the best of their ability. I've only just recently gained confidence in my art, and have gotten a bit more experimental, so that's good. I'm hoping it'll get a bit easier once I've fully adopted the concept of treating it less like a quest to become best ever. ^^

Well, I'm off to go catch up with homework and commissions. I'll check back tomorrow if I can manage to hijack my dad's computer for an hour or so.

My own got killed. Spyware. =/ Raagh... I resolve to stop mistreating my computer with dirty files and excessive music downloads. Shamefully, I must admit that I've completely destroyed computers in the past. Really.. It's terrible. My conscience burns. sad

nah nah don't let that idea hang you up
you MUST NOT make the mistake of getting hung up on the ideals of art the reason noone can be the best is simply from the virtue that art is an unending road on which everyone can always improve
know what it really means to have a different style and what that does and does not allow you to do
this idea of "oh it's just his style" is an excuse more times than it is a reason, so DON'T get hung up on it, don't use it as a screen to hide behind
in truth you don't write your own style, your style will write itself as you grow learn and assimilate new things. so as long as you just improve your skills your style will follow
