Yeah I thought it was really weird, too. I guess it's just another of his "curiosities" and has nothing to do with Calixto himself, but I hung onto it just in case it becomes important. Maybe there's a quest for it later or something idk
Either way I really want that house he was using but you have to be a Stormcloak to get it and I refuse to to the faction quests this character.
