Really? I consider her one of the stronger characters. To me it doesn't seem like she's pitying herself so much as she is pointing out the ironies of everyone around her. Like when she says things like of course no one wonders what Ada is thinking, who only had half the brain, it seems more like she's accepted that she'll never be as good as her sisters and being kind of gothic and cynical in her views of life is how she copes. It would be awfully lonely to be her, I think. I'd hate to have a father who preferred to think that I was mute because he thought that women were empty-headed heathen animals only ever half the worth of a man like himself.
Hrm. If she was saying those things ironically and cynically, than that actually makes her pretty funny. I thought she was saying them bitterly and spitefully, in self-love and hatred/jealousy towards everyone around her. *needs to re-read but has no time!
gonk * It is a rather large book. Have you finished it yet?
Yes, their dad is a jerk 100%. I think that's maybe the one thing they all agree on.
sweatdrop I agree being Adah would be very lonely, but sometimes I think she makes her life lonelier than it needs to be.
