Kind of. It's more like they can sense when something bad is going to happen, like rats do when they seem to randomly jump off a ship, and the next thing you know it's sinking. They wouldn't know exactly what specifically is going to happen. The way I imagine it, nature kind of talks to itself. The Zanarans by this point are already looking for Aran, and using a great deal of magic to do it. Magic has a certain effect on nature, so "word" gets around.

At one point in the story, Lyndsey is being chased by something and a plant saves her life by flashing a picture of flame into her head when danger is coming closer, so she knows where not to run.

So not really. They can't technically tell the future, but they can warn people who are receptive, like Lyndsey, that something is coming.
that's really cool! It's realistic actually, although not as real as people thought for a while. I took a bio class on plants and for a while people thought plants had ESP because they would respond if a plant next to it got injured, or if they killed an animal next to the plant. It turned out their equiptment was faulty, but I think it's a cool idea, and it's been proven that plants do respond well to music, so I wouldn't be surprised if they could sense a presense like magic. That's so neat! I can see why Lyndsey wonders why no one else talks to them. o.O It must seem very illogical to her why they don't.
She's fun to write, because she is so down-to-earth and common sense.

It's kind of ironic, because Vael keeps saying how much of a relief it is that Lyndsey, at least, is normal. rofl
Here's her introduction:

Quote:
Vael looks funny when he blushes. His face gets all red like a lobster and a cherry. He blushed all big at Ari-cuz and runned away like a chicken with its tail between its legs. Ari-cuz smiled all sweet and asked me what did I want for breakfast? Ari-cuz is a really awesome kind of cooker, even better than Daddy. She said she was gonna make me eggs, but first she had to clean up all the pans Daddy threw around everywhere looking for his keys that were hanging on the little hooker-thing on the wall where he always puts them.

Ari-cuz is my Mommy, but you can’t tell anyone that. It happened cuz I was sad that my real Mommy who I never even met was dead and I had no Mommy. But everyone else in my class did, so why did my Mommy have to be dead? So I cried, cuz even though I never even met her, I still miss her. Ari-cuz made me happy again. She said she would be my secret Mommy and I could be her secret daughter. So shhh! You can’t tell anyone, especially not Daddy. He’d have a cunipshun if he found out. That’s what Vael said. Vael already knows that I have a secret Mommy. He knows everything and thinks Daddy’s head will explode any day now, practically, cuz we keep up the surprising him thing. I think that’s his favorite word, because he says it all the time. He says lots of big words that I don’t understand, but he says cunipshun more than all the others, especially to me when I make a mess or wear two different-matching shoes.

My friend is named Susan. She’s the houseplant that Ari-cuz brought to us because she says Daddy can’t decorate anything to save his life. Susan is always very happy to see me and tells me stuff about the neighbors. She hangs in a cute little basket by the window and likes to spy on the house next door.

But lately Susan hasn’t been very happy, and that makes me worried. I think maybe that she might be sick or something, or else very, very confused. She keeps telling me that a storm is coming, but it’s all sunshine and blue sky out the window.

“Ari-cuz, is it going to rain?” Ari-cuz looked out the window and then smiled at me. Her nose wrinkles up when she smiles. Vael says that it’s cute when she does that and it’s not because she’s old.

“I don’t think so, honey. Why do you ask?”

“Susan says it’s gonna rain. I think she’s getting sick.”

Ari-cuz smiled at me and patted me on the head like I was a dog. “Well, why don’t you ask Susan when the storm is coming?” I don’t know why no one else talks to Susan, but I like to be the only one who she talks to so I guess it’s alright.

I scootched over to Susan where she was hanging by the window. “When’s it gonna rain?” I asked her.

In my head there was rain and winds blowing hard. A tree fell down with a big CRASH sound. “She says she doesn’t know.” I reported. “But that we need to get ready, ‘cause a big storm is coming and we might get hurt by falling trees.”

Ari-cuz smiled and shook her head as she cooked yummy eggs for me.

Ari-cuz is cool cuz she’s my secret Mommy and plays with me and makes me food. But sometimes I don’t think she actually really listens to me

She gets common metaphors mixed up. "Like a chicken with its tail between its legs" XP
