Usually, I would start the trade, then finish it when you're done with the art. I don't mind either way, but if you're looking to get commissions from other people, they may be more untrusting about sending the gold completely first. ^^

Yeh, I know what you mean. I'm a total newb on gaia, but I've been doing commissions off the site for years now. I used to ask for the money after the job was done (I can understand people not wanting to pay up-front) but unfortunately I've had to many people take advantage of that and run off without paying me. To date, I've lost around $600 to people who just decided they weren't going to pay after I gave them the art. I just don't want to let those things happen again.
If you like, I can do it in deposits. How about 50% now and you can pay the other half once you've seen it? heart
