Say what? I classify my shop as an experimental art shop because my art is frequently changing, (hopefully improving,) and never the same. There are people who have achieved a level of competency in a certain art style who would choose to draw in that style, over and over, until it becomes practically reflex. I don't want that. Every time I draw it's something new for me. I tried in the past to force myself to draw consistently in one style in large quantities for the sake of running a shop on Gaia ... it didn't work and I got tired quickly. With an experimental shop, you specify some base guidelines such as shading style and lineart style, and the rest is up to me.
The result is that your commission will be unique, instead of looking like part of a "set" of similar commissions.
There are 4 variables that can be specified in a commission: Lineart Style, Lineart Quality, Shading Style, and Image Size. Shading only applies if you're requesting a coloured picture.
Below are prices and examples. Click on the preview to see the full picture (most are deviantArt links.)
I don't have very many examples right now, hence the repetition. Better references soon~
Lineart Style
Anime - x1.5 With this style you will get my best attempt at a "stereotypical" anime style. Medium/large anime eyes, anime shaped face, not very detailed hair.. etc. Stylized - x2 This is as close as I get to my own unique style. It's generally semi-realism with stylized facial features and more detailed hair. Mabinogi Chibi Chibis with Mabinogi-like proportions.
There is a separate post dedicated to these chibis, scroll down for more info.. Chibi - x1 I have a couple different sub-styles of chibi, but in general they have large heads, shiny rounded eyes, a small body, and either very dainty or very large feet. Chibis only come in fullbody or head shot.
Lineart Quality
Rough Sketch - 2,500gSimple - 5,000g Simple lineart is characterized by bold, non-sketchy lines. It contains less detail than my Detailed lineart option however, and is cheaper as a result. Depending on the art I sometimes like to add a darker outline around the outside of the shape. Sketch - 6,000g This type of sketch lineart is what I'd call refined sketching. It starts out as a messy sketch but a second, cleaner sketch is done on a new layer and the original sketch is discarded. It is characterized by light sketchy strokes. Detailed - 7,500g Detailed lineart is done on SAI with a 0.8 pixel ink pen brush. As the name says, it is more detailed than Simple lineart. The lines are smooth and non-sketchy.
Shading Style
Cel Shading Cel Shading is characterized by solid blocks of colour and a clear definition of where shadows and highlights are. It is the type of shading normally seen in 2D animation. My Cel Shading occasionally includes gradient overlays or blush, especially on chibis.
499x499 and below - +5,000g
below 800x600 - +8,000g
800x600 and up - +15,000g
Soft Shading The focus of soft shading is to make the shading smooth. It is much more subtle than cel shading. I'm still learning how to soft shade. The high starting price is for the base effort involved in even trying.
499x499 and below - +10,000g
500x500 and up - +15,000g
Brush Shading A more spontaneous style that could be counted as a mix between soft and cel shading. There are often parts on a brush shaded picture where there is a defined edge on shadows, but also spots where it blends in like soft shading.
499x499 and below - +6,000g
below 800x600 - +7,000g
800x600 and up - +15,000g
Image Size + Type
Head Shot - x1 Just the head of your character. This may or may not include the shoulders, depending on the character. If the character has distinctive long hair, I will probably draw the head as 'floating' with the body 'transparent' and the hair visible from behind. A small headshot is the default and has no extra charge aside from lineart/colouring costs.
300x300 - 0g
500x500 - +1,000g Bust Shot - x1.5 I use the term Bust Shot and Waist-Up interchangeably. What you get depends on the design of the character.
400x400 - +1,000g
600x600 - +3,000g Chibi Fullbody - x1 Obviously, this can only be done in the chibi Lineart Style. The larger the image the more detail you'll have, but personally I feel the smaller ones are cuter. Chibis generally are not square, so the actual height and width will vary.
150x150 - 1,000g - This option is standalone. If you request one of these you get a simplified, doll-like graphic. It costs only 1,000g, and you don't need to pick lineart or shading.
300x300 - +500g
500x500 - +1,500g Fullbody - x3 Your character, no parts cut off. I really really hate doing fullbodies because of how much longer they take and the amount of attention I need to therefore put into correct body proportioning, hence the jump in price.
350x500 - +1,000g
500x700 - +2,000g
800x600 - +5,000g
Very Large Pictures, Couples - bribe
Extras
Animation - +1,000g Animation is restricted to head shots, bust shots, 300x300 (and below) chibis, and standalone animation. For head shots and bust shots, animation means blinking or other changes in expression like raising an eyebrow (No Warcraft elves. NO.) or smiling/frowning/etc.150x150 chibis can have a much wider range of animations, including fullbody animations, at the cost of less detail on the lineart and shading. Standalone animation is for the time being a frame-by-frame 2-colour sketch of some simple movement such as spinning or running.
Standalone Animation - 5,000g, simple designs only. Background - x5 Solid Colour/Gradient/Patterns/Designs - 100g
Basic Landscape - 1,000g
Detailed Landscape - bribe Flob I can change a headshot, bust shot, or chibi to a forum flob free of charge. Couples, Romance, Nudity etc As a general rule I extremely dislike drawing couples. I will only do it if I like the characters, if the person requesting it is on my whitelist, or if I get a bribe I can't resist. I don't draw kissing. I'm sort of okay with nudity, but only if it's artistic. I don't draw n***s in suggestive poses. There may be an extra charge associated with this.
Adjustment
A new feature I added to improve price scaling.
Adjustment is multiplied to your final cost at the very end, and is based on the cost prior to the adjustment.
x2 - prices below 35k
x3 - prices above 35k
Calculating the Cost
1. Begin with your Lineart Quality cost. That is your base cost.
2. Take your selected Image Size cost and multiply it with the Image Type multiplier. Add this to your base cost.
3. Multiply by your Lineart Style cost.
4. If you're requesting coloured art, add the correct additional cost.
5. Add and/or multiply in any other fees from the Extras section. As a general rule, anything following the x___ format is to be multiplied, and anything with + ___ is to be added. Addition always comes before multiplication.
6. To find the final price, multiply by the adjustment.
Example: 400x400 Simple Lineart Anime Bust Shot with Cel Shading
(1.5(5,000 + 1.5(1,000)) + 5,000)x2 = 29,500 Gaia Gold
Yes, there are much simpler ways to price art. This is a retard check.
Multiple Characters In One Picture
Is not currently a standard option. Feel free to bribe.
Avatar-like props, like the Celebrity Date and various forms of other items such as Fallen Wish and the 2008 winter Carol items, count as one character.
Likes To Draw
It's biased, but my art generally turns out better if I'm drawing something I enjoy drawing.
+ Medieval Fantasy
+ MMORPG Characters - WoW, L2, GW, etc...
+ Magic users (pretty robes.)
Will Not Draw
Under no circumstances will I agree to drawing the following.
+ Heavily muscled men/muscly people in general
+ Male characters. The exception is very girly boys and chibis.
+ Mecha
+ Exaggerated boobs
+ Unoriginal Anime Characters - this includes main characters and poorly customized fan characters.
+ Excessive Blood/Gore
+ Characters naked for the sake of being naked. As an elaboration on my comment about nudity earlier, I'll only draw naked characters if they are female, and if they have a good reason to be naked, i.e. a shapeshifter having just shifted out of animal form, mermaids, feral faeries.
+ Characters pleasing themselves.
+ Extremely boring, or unoriginal characters. Some avatars may fall into this category.
+ Mismatched or cluttered avatars. What constitutes as cluttered is up to my discretion.
