I'm not a member of a chapter yet, but I'm looking into it. I just would be hard for me to come up with costumes and such for events, being a college student and all, most of my money goes towards food and books. xD

Well, all the SCA asks for is an "attempt" no one will bite your head off for not being perfectly accurate (that's the job of the PARMA folk)
But if you're ever nearby, should come to a Seagirt or Lionsgate event. ^^ Oh, and then there's always the Gold Key, which lends out garb for events for those who don't have the means to dress up. ^^ |

Ahh, I'm in the Shire of Coeur du Val. Which I just found out has an event today, haha. But it says it's limited, and I'm not even a member yet. xD

I've been playing for nigh on 4 years, but i've never bought a membership. It's really only worth it if you go to a minimum of 4 events per year, and i only go to two, usually.
Besides, at least in Seagirt, if you aren't a member, the difference in price is not that much higher. ^^ |

Yeah, I've been looking into them, and the price is only $3 more for non members. I'm so tempted, but my other problem is transportation. I don't drive, and the two other closest branches, Adiantum and Terra Pomaria are close, but not close enough to walk. I could take the bus or train there, but that's just tacking on another expense. What this area needs is a really good Ren Faire. There's this one in Irwindale, California, that's just amazing. Runs for about two months. Absolutely wonderful. Great people, too. I'd lost my wallet there, and when they found it and my ID in it, they mailed it to my school. :3

Yeah, the events around here are always really small, but really high quality. Everyone pretty much knows everyone, so people look out for each other - for the most part.

That's good. If I do decide to do SCA, I'll probably talk to my friend about it first, since she did it for years with her family, and see what her thoughts on it are. I really think it would be great to find a community like that though. :3

Yeah, when i first went it was just out of curiosity, but i didn't really have any connections to it.
Then when i was in University, they had an educational chapter, an Ithra school, tat i took part in, and learned many neat things. But my best friend now has been a fighter in the SCA for 10 years, so it was easy to tag along. And now, our whole gaming group got into it, and we all go. ^^ We've got a House known as the Cowardly Lions based on a long-standing joke from highschool. |

That's awesome. I don't think we have a chapter at the my university per se, but I know there's the one in town. And my friend back home are all into Ren Faires, and would probably be into the idea of SCA, but since I'm away at college, I'm not sure if any of the people here would go to an event with me. >.>
