Not really. You are the one paying for the art after all. If you don't like the quality of someone's art then you don't have to buy it. It's not really a matter of being picky, but more as being decisive on what you like.

I pretty much don't buy art with lower quality then my own.. but that seems to make the most sense, why buy something one can do themselves.

So true. I've seen many people pricing their art higher than it should be. If some of them practiced more with their art, bringing the quality of it up, then I would be willing to pay their prices. But I'm not going to spend 50k on a hideous chibi that is only work 10-15k coloured and all.
