Art Requests Forum Rules and Guidelines

Welcome to the Art Requests forum! This forum is intended for members to request and commission artists to create original works of art. This can take many forms, from avatar art and sketches to poetry and music! This includes art trades or requesting another artist creates an original work in exchange for your original work.


As a member, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the forum's rules before posting. Posting in this forum implies that you read and understand the rules and guidelines and that you accept responsibility for the appropriateness of your thread or post.

General Posting Guidelines

Please be sure to follow the Terms of Service and Rules and Guidelines here, as in all forums.

Common violations to avoid:

Plagiarism. Claiming another persons work as your own, or posting another persons work without giving proper credit are all forms of plagiarism. Plagiarism should be reported with the name of the original author and a link to the original work.

Art theft. Claiming another persons work as your own or posting artwork that has been copied or traced from other people's artwork, or images created using other people's artwork without permission and credit is considered art theft. Art theft should be reported with a link to the original work.

Scamming. Taking or attempting to take another member's gold, items or efforts, through false promises, deception, tricks or get-rich-quick schemes is considered scamming and is not tolerated on Gaia.

Copyrighted Materials. Posting, requesting or linking to copyrighted materials, such as mp3s, movies, TV episodes or compute software is not permitted on Gaia.

Terms of Service violations may result in a warning or a ban on your account.


Offering to mail original commissioned art:

Gaia is not the post office! We have no way of making sure that someone mails something to you. This means that if you gave someone 500k for a painting, we could never verify that they did in fact send a painting to you or not. You could lie and say they didn't, or they could just never send it, and we couldn't tell. What this all means is that this just isn't allowed. You cannot sell real life items for Gold, even if they are original commissioned creations.

We also are not responsible for any negative consequences as a result of you giving out personal information. Please read Gaia's Safety Tips and do not share personal information on Gaia.

• While artists can offer to mail the original version of the art, they must provide a high quality digital version. This means a scan or good quality digital photograph as would normally be expected to be received in R&C. Any artwork that cannot be transmitted in a functional form digitally cannot be sold.
  
  
• Lousy webcam photographs that only serve to prove that an artwork is involved are not sufficient.

Essentially, offering to mail the finished art from a commission or auction should be treated as a bonus, and should in no way change the normal auction process nor the product required to be delivered on gaia.

Because of the requirement that the person must receive an accurate, good quality digital version of the commission, things such as plushies, cosplay items, statues, and so on CANNOT be sold in requests and commissions, because there it is clear that without the real life exchange, you are not receiving the actual, functional creation.

Important Note about trading art for Real Life Currency (RLC)

Gaia now allows users to take RLC orders through Gaia Online, however these should not prevent timely completion of Gaia currency commissions. If you have a shop for offering Gaia currency commissions, you must be actively working on these and deliver these in a timely manner. Gaians who you've accepted gold/item commissions from shouldn't have to wait until your RLC orders slow down for you to start or complete the ordered work.

It is in your best interest to document your gold/item commissions and offers. If your shops are reported to us, and we see evidence that your gold/items commissions are filled with requests that have not been acted on for months and you are accepting orders, you risk having your thread removed and your account warned. Likewise, if we see evidence that you are declining all gold/item offers while still producing RLC commissions through Gaia, you risk having your thread(s) removed and your account warned.

If you no longer wish to accept gold or item commissions for a time, please instead mark your thread as closed and do not use it as an additional venue for advertising your RLC commissions, as this will be treated as a form of advertising which is not permitted.

  AI-generated art may not be bought or sold on Gaia Online
  Artists must sell work that is their original creation. While we recognize that effort goes into the creation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) art, the finished product has been created by extensively using aids and resources and is not fully the artist's own work. Gaians may not buy or sell AI art for Gaia items or currency or for RLC in any of Gaia's forums.
  
  Should you wish to provide free AI art to other Gaians for fun or practice, you are welcome to do so in the Art Freebies or Chatterbox forums. You may not charge or request or accept "tips" for this artwork.
  
  If you find or suspect you have found a user selling AI art, please report the relevant threads or posts together with any other supporting evidence.
  
  
  If you find Terms of Service violations, or threads that may need moved to a different forum, please use an appropriate report.

How to Report

Abuse of the report system will result in a warning or ban of your account.

Report a Post

Use the button when an individual post in a topic contains inappropriate content.

Reasons to Report a Post:

Use the Report this Topic button at the bottom of the page when a topic is not appropriate for the forum.

Report Hacking, Scamming or Abuse & Harassment?

The Hacking, Scamming and Abuse or Harassment report forms can be found at the bottom of the forum index. When submitting a report, ensure that you fill out all fields and include as much relevant information as possible.

Report A Hacking
Use this form to report a Hacking. Hacking, on Gaia Online, refers to the unauthorized access of an account by someone other than the account owner. In most typical hacking cases, an unauthorized person enters an account which does not belong to him or her and takes items or gold from the account, often changing the account information so that the original owner can no longer access his or her account.

Report A Scamming
Use this form to report a Scamming. Scamming is when another member of Gaia takes your gold or items, or tries to take your gold or items, by making false promises of giving you rare items, get-rich-quick schemes, or by any other deceptive means. Scamming generally involves a situation in which two members of Gaia make an arrangement to trade gold, items, or a Gaia approved service (e.g. avatar art commission) with each other and then one of the parties involved in the arrangement fails to live up to his or her promise of an exchange.

Use this form to report ongoing Abuse or Harassment. If you are reporting harassment or abuse that is occurring directly in a thread, please use the "Report This Post" button instead.
