what kinda colour?
there are a bunch of different ways i could tell you how i hard colour or soft colour but i'm not that great

well wen i colooooor...I just use the brush tool on sai haha, thats it xD just use different tones when you want to shade a color or lighten it.

dark shade---base color---light shade
dark blue-------blue-------light blue ;when you shade with the same color, just going up and down one color value, then it starts to look very...bleh and boring.
dark purple-----blue-------turquoise ;this gives it more color and....stuff. thats how I color, anyway sweatdrop
