Psh. When was in Minneapolis I lived on $8.50 an hour. $10 is like, rolling in dough for me. Granted, I'm in Seattle now and things are more expensive, but even when I lived here before I was only getting $9 an hour and I never ran out of money then.

I've been doing some freelance stuff on occasion, but I guess I got my first official art related job about a month ago. My cousin is an art major and started her own business, a social painting studio. Basically it's a studio where you can register to be taught how to paint a painting of your choice. They take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours to complete in studio and we walk you through it, provide a canvas, paint, water, brushes, etc. We do sessions where anyone can register and also private parties for kids and adults, adult parties are allowed to bring alcohol. Eventually we're going to be doing more formal painting lessons, summer camps, and supervised open studio time. It's a pretty cool job so far and I really like that I actually have an on paper job that's art related. Right now I pretty much just assist while she teaches the lessons, I refill peoples paint, water, etc. and help them and answer questions if she's busy, and I clean up afterwards. She's training me to teach the lessons myself though so she can have some days off. It's also nice because I'm finally being paid more than minimum wage!

Yeah, I started out on 7 something. I also bought a lot of used furniture and fixed it up. I paid maybe 35 or 40 for my computer desk and chair and 5.00 for the corner desk. I also got a couple of small shelves for the back for cheap. Then I painted them so everything matches. It's kind of fun doing stuff like that. If I ever get my strength back I want to make furniture. Someday I want to do something like this I find it cool as hell.

Eeee! It reminds me of Tumbleweed Houses. I don't think I could ever raise a family in one of the smaller ones, but some of their 300 sq foot ones? I totally would buy/build.

Or I just want one to put into the back yard of a normal sized house to make my own personal studio. That would be pretty neat.

Isn't it great? I was thinking if I could buy a lot, something that small doesn't fall under housing codes and I'd be able to travel with it. My best friend and I would have so much fun with that. It's a dream anyway. Right now I'm not physically able to make it but I have experience helping people remodel. I think something like that is the size of a small apartment.

Edit: I just looked at the link, fun stuff.

Holy s**t, congrats! That sounds like an awesome and chill job!

I technically havn't had any art job yet, unless you count IRL commissions, but I do currently work as a Life Drawing teacher aid at my college. I basically help the little freshmen learn anatomy/correct their mistakes as they're drawing from the model, I also give demos whenever the teacher asks me to... Now he's mostly just shoving a sketchbook at me as soon as I walk in the door and says he just wants me to draw the whole time, which is super awesome. The teacher asked me to work double hours this semester, so I guess I'm doing a pretty decent job at it!

That sounds pretty neat!
Do you get paid, or is it like, a "for credits" or an internship-like thing? I've always wondered about that when I see teachers aids.

Yup, I get paid by the hour, plus any over time (I usually stay about 10-20 minutes after to help clean up). I think it's like... $9.50/hour? Something like that... Not a crazy amount, but it is above minimum wage here in California. But yeah, some school's teacher aids do only get paid with credits, I know some of my relatives think that whenever I mention to them that I'm a teacher aid, and they're kind of shocked to hear that I'm actually getting paid with money, not school credits.
Once a week I help art students proofread and edit artist statements, biographies, and CVs.
And I work in a bookshop that specializes in -mostly- art books.

I used to work at a Cowling & Wilcox art supply shop.

That's about it.

I was a "marketing intern" for a non-profit once. I was happy to hear about it initially because I was in school and thought I'd be set. Turns out the person in charge didn't no anything about graphic design and I got wrangled into making things for her pals for free. It would've been alright if I got to speak with these "clients" but she was the middle man. I didn't learn much about graphic design and I feel a little weird putting it one my resume. Unfortunately, it's the only design job I have, I have to keep it up there. I still need about 4 more jobs before it gets bumped off.

Freelance: Concept Artist / Animator / Teacher

Low recognition.... but by those that do recognize me - want to hire me. :3c

So many temptations of just quitting college and accepting a job offer the next time around. ; 3 ;

I get paid to design and animate animals all day.

d'you work on farmville? xd

I worked a while in-house in a small start up studio, nice pay, nice project, nice people and less-nice ones.

Now I do freelancing, so far who I've worked for has been eclectic, but my latest client has been a really great studio with some insanely great artists...so yeah, it's pretty darn intimidating on a daily basis. In the end though, if you got hired, it's because they think you can accomplish the task they've set up for you. 3nodding You start on smaller things and work your way up and once you're there... Well you keep on working because you're always your harshest critic. xd

Oh gooood no haha. I have a few friends over at Zynga, I rarely hear from them because they're so busy all the time. I'm at a social/mobile studio working on some animal themed games that have much nicer designs and animation :3

Yeah, overtime can get pretty terrible in video games sweatdrop I've been pretty lucky so far, I very much have a life xd you guys work with flash?
The only one remotely related to art that I've had was a shirt-catcher and folder in a screen printing place. I would take the mountains of really hot shirts of the 20 ft. dryer and arrange, fold and box each set. It's tougher than it sounds. Gotta be quick, ahaa.
Eventually I'll be trained to actually work the screen print stations on the other side soon!
