I draw and sculpt, but I don't consider myself an artist. Artist means something profesional to me, which I am not. Do you consider yourself an artist?
Bonus: What's the best tip you've ever heard on creating art?
I don't call myself that too,but people do.
I'm an artist. A bad one, but an artist nonetheless.

I'm a hobbyist.

In my opinion, you're a hobbyist, if you're not serious about art (as a career). You're a beginner at art, if you've just started. You're a student of art, if you don't consider yourself quite the level of a professional. And, you're an artist, if you're actually that as a career. (Maybe even a little later than that.) But, that's just how I see things. I'm sure plenty of other people have different terms.
Well... I make things that one might call "art," and therefore, I wouldn't feel like a jerk for calling myself an "artist." It does, however, irk me when people say that I'm an "Anime artist," because drawing in an Anime style is not my intention. crying I suppose the influence is there, but everybody keeps overlooking the fact that I'm not Japanese. I consider this a prerequisite for being an Anime artist, I guess.

I think trying to find a term other than "artist" would muddy the situation too much. I could call myself an "Art student," but isn't everybody who is interested in or makes art a student? If you're doin' it right, you're learning all the time!

The best art advice I have ever heard (but haven't been smart enough to follow) was this: Carry a small sketchbook with you everywhere, and put it to use on a regular basis.

I do love me some artin'.

I consider myself a concept artist, or a premature concept artist because I don't have a full portfolio. I have the skill and the experience, just none of the results of my skill and experience. That's the main reason I am on gaia, I could care less about an avatar, or making gold, I just want commissions and I guess some popularity.

Everyone's an artist.
Some are better than others.
Being an 'artist' has nothing to do with being a 'professional'. Someone can be amazingly good, but only do it for a hobby, so would that make them any less of an artist? No.

I think the title of 'artist' comes when a person can create something that really...resonates with people. I can't think of a better word. 'Art' itself is so hard to define that the word 'artist' is not going to be any easier.

I hesitate to use the term artist on myself and avoid it when possible. I tend to say I want to be an illustrator. 'Artist' is a little pretentious to me, although when included in titles like 'concept artist' it doesn't bother me.

It's really interesting to see what people think. I think Swordy Hero has it right for a lot of us.
I could consider myself an artist ( a newbie though sweatdrop )

The best tip I ever got hmmmmmm : PRACTICE A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There seems to be a lot of debate over what is or isn't an artist, so I usually don't apply the term to myself if I can avoid it.
I call myself a drawer for that exact reason
