Unfortunately, I'm one of those people that do better when told to draw something. Only then can my hand and imagination agree with each other. This has been a very helpful topic! I've already started some freebie commissions, but I didn't know there was a forum for that! Thanks.

This was very helpful, but I have a question regarding the actual drawing itself.
Every time I get an idea or inspiration to start a new piece of work, I just can't seem to draw even the simple sketches anymore. It's like I have all of these ideas, but I can never seem to draw what I want to. Help?

Number 2 is more fun than some would think.
In school we were forced what to draw gesture sketches of but when you're doing it of whatever pose you want, it's fun and sparks creativity.

Charcoal is really fun to use with it (which is what you use in colleges when doing gesture drawings).

I would just like to say you single-handedly got me into drawing again. I'm not terrible, I just don't do it enough. I hate to sound conceited, but I have rather good "raw" talent that is completely unrefined and I need practice to get better. And all of these methods are fantastic ways for me to do that without getting bored, uninspired or running out of things to draw.

So, thank you. razz

I myself personally would love art trades or collabs. Both of those things kind of make me have to go outside of my comfort zone and see how other people draw/design characters or something.

4. Try one of those 100-theme challanges. These can be fun, but they also can be work. The idea is to pick a theme or two per day, and draw anything from sketches to completed pictures based off that theme. If you don't want to do 100, then you can easily cut down the list to 20 or 30 pictures. Here's one such list I had saved in a text file on my computer:
