User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Basically, I have a school project that's due in a few days. And I have based it on human anatomy, semi-realism style

The goal of my project, other than actually teaching anatomy, is to show the importance of learning anatomy, and human proportions; to those who loves to draw anime.

Of course, the proportions will be slightly stretched, but the only reason for that is that I've found books teaching realism anatomy, manga anatomy, but nothing in the middle (for semi-realism).

I want your arguments/opinions as in to why anatomy is important

To how it helps an artist that loves to draw anime/manga

And also, if an anime-ish/semi-realism style can also be considered as "art". (Because I've seen a lot of people not accepting it as a real art-style)

Or anything else you can think of the subject.

Thank you a lot for this. *bows* m( _ _ )m

You need a decent grasp on anatomy to cartoon effectively and believably. I think this note by master animator Walt Stanchfield speaks for itself.

Please don't use GaiaOnline as a place to help you with your homework. How do you expect to learn if you keep asking others to help you ? Wasting your time to go online is counter productive and you will never get it done.

I have my own views on this, but I also would like other people's opinion on this. At first, I would have wanted to interview someone on this, but I honestly have no clue on who to interview.

And to your own information, this is a project, which I have chosen myself, and I have no one at school that can actually help me with it. I am not in an art school. (We have a tutor that in theory should help us on this, but my tutor happens to know nothing on art). Besides, what's wrong with asking external help? And this is to help me with the introduction to the project. Because the project itself is the art.

And I am learning by asking. Don't tell me you never learned by asking a question in your life.

Oh! That quote would be really helpful! <3

If I wanted to cite this in my project, is there a site I can link to or something?

Anatomy is important because how the ******** am I supposed to draw something when I don't understand how it works and s**t.

In the beginning of your thread it says, "Basically, I have a school project that's due in a few days.". That is "homework".

An art teacher is a good source of information. If that person has no no background in art or art history that is really sad. Libraries also have tons of books that can showcase what you are trying to present. Providing pictures will be able to help your presentation a lot (even if it's just a written report).

I didn't have the internet during my days in high school, but I do know how do my research.

Yes, it is a school project due in a few days. But not exactly homework. Yes, our art teacher fails. hard. It is sad.

I did search in books. Sadly, I have found none that actually discuss this?
My presentation is mainly based on image. Like this one.

I am having a block on my project, trying to write the forewords as to encourage people in reading the actual guide. And I wanted to know what others thought about the subject. But clearly, few people are actually taking me seriously.

Thank you so much! biggrin

I dont know much about drawing but more about anatomy... ( stupid school ) But since I like to bring out of everything the best If i would draw something i would like to do it well... so I would listen to any suggestion or opinion from those who are better than me.
Yes, anime and semi realism is still art as someone created it. Whether or not people think is good is subjective to ones opinion.

I think it is good as one must understand the basics and anatomy for any style in order for it make it look nicer. I do noticed that a lot of people are still not accepting of it as art, even if the artist does seem to know a great deal to me, but like I said, we all have our own opinions.

Some people to ignore it and assume they don't need to learn, though they don't have to if they aren't going to become a professional, it will make it hard to improve and they probably won't.

When I first tried anime influenced style without knowing the basics, it was horrible. It had no structure and proper anatomy, so it looked limp. There is a lot more problems than that, but I will focus on the anatomy only since that is what this topic is about. Everything about the body was off-the hands looked weird, the legs looked like sticks and way too short, the neck was too thin, etc....it shows that I didn't understand anything (I did learn anatomy, just not for drawing and didn't use it for my art). Basically looked like something a little kid drew. It was embarrassing. I only kept it to compare my new stuff to it.

Though I still have a lot to learn and trying to figure stuff out, it looks better now than it did before.

I've just practice draw stuff like more realistic noses, ears and drawing different arms and hands and trying to add more realistic details to make it look more like a hand and muscles for the arm , etc... or what I learned from perspective to I can try to apply it later to my art. I would draw faces and use what people told me to help with the proper placement I guess you can say.

Google mla or apa format, probably mla since it's an art assignment, but you can ask hour teacher how you should site sources. Or it could be on the syllabus.
Anatomy is probably one of the most important things about drawing, especially when you create cartoons. How can you exaggerate any feature without knowing where it belongs? And once you've exaggerated a feature, all the other parts are going to have to change slightly in order for it to work. e.g. if you want make the torso (mainly pecs and abs) look huge and extra muscular, you'll have to know how muscle groups like 'teres major' and 'serratus major' are going to look as well (:
And you can't know where they will be placed unless you know anatomy.

Aha, thank you. Don't worry, our program makes us cite things everyday... I just needed the book to know what source it is from.

Thanks a lot anyways :3
