Now. Start drawing realism. Hardcore realism. Draw everything you see. If you are serious about become an animator. If you have any art classes available where you are at now, take them.

I know you told me this a while back but I wanted to ask; by realism, do you mean photorealistic drawings?

I noticed that realism is all about the shading...

I mean realism like...realistic features and proportions. It doesn't have to be shading. Look up things like figure drawing and you get the picture. C:

Yes! I get to use this thing-

Studying realism doesn't mean being a human photocopy machine and draw/render everything perfectly. Just study from real life, study anatomy from books/online/real life models...hardwork but you'll see yourself improve as you keep at it.

I have a better idea of it now. smile Thanks!
I'm just going to add one quick thing.

Scrolling through the posts, I've noticed you've referred to realism as a style; that's not what we're asking you to change your drawings to.

We're asking that you study from life and drop the stylizing completely.

Just like in the picture OhYez posted, study and don't focus on photo-realistic perfection, but movement and anatomy.

I hope that cleared something up.

I just have to think that that is the foundation to any other style out there right?

And I know. Anime is a style of drawing (I assume). And I can't go into stylizing until I've got the foundation.

Correct.

Thought I would just check that you knew what the difference was, because in a few other forums, some people have been hesitant about studying from life because they are not interested in a "realistic style". And that's simply not what anyone meant by 'study from life'.

Cool, I'll be on my way then. Good luck with your studies, you've got a long ways ahead of you.
