Welcome to Gaia! ::

I myself have always wanted to be a painter...tho all my friends have been putting me down...tho my hopes are still up that one day, i will become something good...hopefully i will be a painter biggrin heart
If you really love painting then dont let anything slow you down. All that matters when it comes to deciding on a career is you and what your passionate about. Keep at it please.
I love art. Ive disided that im going to go to collage to be an animator smile its sad how many parents dont support art as a career, i am fortunet enough to be supported but even if they didn't i would still do what ever made me happy for a career. I think having a passion for your career can all together make your life better. It would suck to wake up every day and dread going to work.
You can also be passionate about art and not have it as a career. I'm an Opera/ Music Ed. Major at FSC, Brahm Zipperlin is my fiance', and I always go to the studio with him and work on my own pieces without having to be tied down. I'm definitly not saying that you can't, I am definitly saying that you can. Watching my fiance' work so hard after having no motivation to begin with has been an amazing trnasformation. But if you are passionate in one thing more than another, you can still pursue one without having to have it as a career. It might be good for you to have it was a stress reliever if you dont feel like pursueing it.
Always have faith in yourself and never let anyone, not even your parents, tell you that you can't because you CAN! biggrin

heart I LOVE YOU BRAHMMY! heart
i love to draw and hope i can go to a art univesrty or make it big with the things i'm passionted about..... i did my sig 4laugh sweatdrop redface

But I went ahead with my major cause it couldn't hurt to get better at it while I figure out what I wanna do. But one figer drawing class and an amazing proffessor later, I suddenly love art. With a passion. I'm actually pretty sure that one day I'll be a proffessor, and hopefully I'll be even close to as good as him.

Anyway, whats your take on life careers and your passion for that career? Do you think love for your trade is important? rofl

Life can be full of surprises, can it not? smile The things we feel we don't love, or never thought we would, we might start loving it. 3nodding I'm happy to hear of your happiness and love.

Passion and love for our career are wonderful things. Though circumstances differ for each and every one of us. Some are not fortunate enough to choose what they love as a career... but while we live we may learn to love what we had to take. 3nodding I think that love for it is important, but it is not the driving force behind choosing a career. Love for our family, whom we want to strive for and protect, and clothe and feed, may be more important than passion for our paths. Sometimes there are family members who don't want to see us sad, but circumstances, like I said before - money, pressing times - are factors that make us take what we have to.

I chose programming even after having an art stint - to be honest, I loved both industries. But at that time, the art industry seemed shaky. Programming was my dream job initially, though I had been bored with the IT line for a while while I delved into the world of illustration. I pursued programming, and realized that my love for it was deeper than I thought it was initially. I still worry about losing my job and not having enough money to settle bills and payments, but it was not as unstable as when I did contract artwork. Sometimes work came. Sometimes they did not. Sometimes the clients wouldn't be satisfied.

When my grandfather had cancer and he was about to die, he needed the money. As his grandson I had so very little to offer. When he died, I realized how short life actually was, and that the least I could do now is work to make life easier for the ones I care for. Anyone'd think doing the work I loved would make me happy, but you know, nothing made me happier than being able to help someone I loved. I could not do it then, but I can try to do so now.

My stand on passion is neutral. I think it is good to love what we do. But it's not the most important thing there is to me. redface
Wow..that was deep.

My MOM supports me drawing, and some say photography and art are my natural talents.
But then theres my Dad... *Im an army brat* emo

So then theres not much hope for me getting out there..

But in 3 years I get to make that decision! biggrin

Its just that you need to be sure of something and follow through with it, or else thats like finishing the race half way?

And eventually if you keep doing that you'll get lost, and so... talk2hand
Kirihito is so right. I guess you could say that your passion is for the happiness and well being of the ones you love. It would of course be a blessing if you could have passion for your life career and still be able to support and help the people you care about. That is actually the one thing I always run into in my mind that makes me think twice about pursuing an art career. sweatdrop but I love talking about art and I love explaining the technical aspects of art, so I think I would make a great professor. The head of my department here at FSC makes descent money though, so if I could reach the level of a professor I should be fine. Until then, I was just going to keep a regular job and work in my own time. But Im a freshman in college, I have plenty of time to figure out what I really want to do. Misszipper and I are planning on going to grad school at NYU after college, so we can get our masters, so that should help a little.
Thanks for the input Kirihito! Thats the kind of response I was waiting for.

It can be a career also. There are so many careers dealing with art. Computer animation is one that I was considering.

i know my parents dont support me wanting to be
a manga artist but i dont care ima stiil gonna do it smile

That weird...B/c My family support me comleatly. For like plays and stuff I often disighn the background. But my friend maddie and I are planing on working to gether in manga art.
Some parents are more understanding when it comes to that kind of stuff than others. They were just raised differently. But if you truly love art, then you sould pursue it! xd

BUMP
Art IS love! Can you imagine what the world would be like of art didn't exist?
Anyways, I've ALWAYS known I wanted to be an artist, for as long as I can remember, which is... when I was about three ^^ I LOVE art. it's beautiful, and the artist is free to express themselves, or even create their own world through their art.
So if art is truly what you love, then GO FOR IT!! Becuase otherwise, you'll be stuck at some crap job, dreading your daily work for the rest of your life >.< Or, you know, maybe not /that/ bad, but you certainly won't be as happy as you would if you were doing something you love ^^''
I love drawing as well, and I want to become a stuido art teacher, though my friends are telling me I should become a highschool art teacher, because of my positive attutude towards youngins when it comes to the subject. I also belive that drawing is an outlet, no matter if it is anime style - realism - garfetti, it is a away to express yourself and show who you truely are even if in real life you hide behind a mask. and aviod showing your true feelings to thoose around you.
