it's absolutely hideous. I'm sure this has been asked before, but is this... normal? I sometimes look back at work that I did years ago and it looks totally different from how I saw it back then. So does this mean that I'm improving? (well, obviously... that was a stupid question but that's not the point!) But how do other people see it? Do people that are better than me see it "the bad way?" How do people that are less talented than me see it?

so many questions~ ;__; I hope this makes sense sweatdrop

I think I know how you feel, you draw something totally amazing then the next day your like "Where'd all me talent go? gonk gonk " Happens to me alot.

Yay! I'm not alone!

It makes perfect sense.
And its completely normal, happens to me all the time. >3>
But its a good thing because then it shows that your improving, and it shows you parts where you need to work on to get better at it.

I keep all my old (sucky) drawings in a drawer just so I can look back and see how much I`ve improved in the month/years.

I think it depends on the person's eye for perfection, or sometimes imperfection. Someone's own level of skill does not mean they can't be just as constructive in pointing out mistakes as someone better than you.

On your own perception, you are your own worst critic. Every artist is like that. Even if you like it when you first draw something, chances are when you go back to it, you'll find something to make you dislike it. It's absolutely normal.

I've got a Jar of Dirt! And guess what's in it!

Ah yes, that makes sense ^^

this is kind of unrelated to your post but I'm just saying this in general so yeah... It's weird how the human mind works. I mean, I'll sketch something like a random person for example and I'll have all the demensions and complicated stuff in there, and some people will be like "wtf is this D:" and other people will tell me that they think its good.. SO YEAH. it's confusing.. wow i'm rambling >_<

Well, not everyone can draw and therefore not everyone knows the various methods (ball & stick, circles and cylinders/squares, whatever) of getting the basic shape of things and so when they see it with the lines and other things besides the final bit, they get confused. I've gotten it plenty of times when I'm in public and I'm sketching. Even if it's a quick sketch of something and I can see the basic shape and they can't. It's all about you knowing what it is, not them.

It happens to everyone. I look back my artwork that I did in high school. It feels like pandora's box everytime I open up my old sketchbook.

burning_eyes <---that would be me.

Mind you, I graduated in 1994. I'm 29 now (that's a lot of time and progress since then)

Okay, so at least I'm not crazy ^^; Thanks for that, you seem to know what you're talking about, too.

It's only annoying when they're open about it. I've had people guess what I was sketching and they'd end up being totally wrong gonk It makes me feel like I'm the one doing something wrong, but whatever, I can't change what they're thinking.

Haha I know what you mean XD I was just terrified by something I drew only 3 months ago... At least that means I'm improving pretty quickly!

Yeah, It happenes a lot. I'm like, "Yeah! I'm so proud of myself, This is my masterpeice(I'm going to selling if for a million dollars!!)" Then when I come back for it the next day and I think its horrible. And all I can do is think is this really my masterpeice? sweatdrop I always blame the little bunnies who come and ruin my art when I am away xd

Nah, its kind of natural for people to think that they are the only one doing something that they think is weird but in truth...We all do it too..so I guess we all are in a way of speaking..Weird blaugh

That happens to me every month! I look at a picture i drew, back then i though it looked so weell done, but a month later it looks like crap. That is a good sign, it shows you're improving, i still have along way to go only being 15-_-.

Egads, most of my stuff is like... once I get over the thrill of creating it and step back it's like... "Why did I ink it so quickly?! There's so many errors!" and yet I'm too lazy to go back and fix it...
