With gold and most metals... uh, it's really hard to do.
Reference pictures will tell you a lot. Generally, gold reflects the colors around it with a yellowish tinge to it. The shadows and light sources are exaggerated and follow the shape of the item.
Apart from that, I agree with the commenter above me.
Actually, that's not true, gold's the only one that reflects everything in its own color. ;D S'why it's so special, I guess.
I'd use a lot of gold and yellow, yeah, and keep it all reeaally saturated.. (unless it's that really pale kinda gold, which is also really nice..) but the most important part is to make it look all shiny and reflecty, with lots of.. well, shinies and reflections, like all metal has. If you don't get that right, even the perfect color will look sorta nasty. D:
