How to color gold....

How would you color gold? I don't see it very often because I'm not a huge fan of jewelry or any other type of gold, so what would a good color for it be? Yellow or orange seems to plain and I tried in between... I can't find a good one! ><

hmm, I'd suggest if you're coloring with a computer program, to find a picture of gold jewelry or whatever that has the look you want, and use the dropper tool to pull the colors of the shades/highlights off, so you'll get a rough idea of the colors.

As Sylph said, you'll probably want to get a reference picture to work from.

Gold, depending on lighting, can vary tremendously. I've seen chunks of gold that could have been mistaken for a pearlescent silver due to a lack in major lighting + a little bit of ambiance.

I'd suggest starting out with a pure yellow, white, and black. Work from there -- you'll get for more different color variants depending on how much you mix the colors together (and frankly that may be all you need) via digital or traditional media.

Actually, that's not true, gold's the only one that reflects everything in its own color. ;D S'why it's so special, I guess.

I'd use a lot of gold and yellow, yeah, and keep it all reeaally saturated.. (unless it's that really pale kinda gold, which is also really nice..) but the most important part is to make it look all shiny and reflecty, with lots of.. well, shinies and reflections, like all metal has. If you don't get that right, even the perfect color will look sorta nasty. D:

well... I'd draw/paint it orangey/yellowish, but with a lot of highlights, so it looks shiny wink

well I suggest a yellow but dandylion (sp?) yellow with a very dark shading tone and white shine

this can be done with even a plain yellow.... it depends on what your style is actually, but if its a cartoon/ anime style... id go with yellow and white. (the white must be carefuly place around it to look as if the yellow bars are shining.) but then again, really depeds on what your style is... if its realistic, grayish yellow, coz the gold reflects things around it.... surprised it should help if you post your art so we could suggest better :p

I use those colors. The bright red is used on a layer on top of everything set to "screen" and is only painted on top of the white highlights of the gold. It is best to use a soft airbrush at like 50% Flow (photoshop) for that part.

I used to know the exact # for it, but google gold bars and use the dropper tool to get the colours.

Take a picture something gold, then add in the color of your surrounding, it reflects lights shadow and colors. The base, i find is normaly a greyish brownish yellow color. it also depends on the metals age whether it is dark or light, young gold is lighter than older gold
