Tempura is fried shrimps and all

What you mean is tempEra

I think there is a trend for advanced artists to mix their own paints with pure pigment, some binder and solvent medium. I think they do it with oil paints and acrylics.

And of course the coffee or tea paintings.
Nice to know, do you have any links?
I'm not sure I respect an artist who mixes their own paints more. In my experience, when mixing your own paints (i've only made oils) the colors come out pretty much the same as what you get in the tubes and the quality is was pretty similar. It's something I'm glad I learned how to do an all and it was a lot of fun but I don't think I'd ever do it again. I spend enough time prepping for a painting, something as tedious as mixing my own paints is now an unnecessary chore.

Its funny to think about what the colors used in a painting used to mean though since you had to mix them yourself. When someone could commission a painting, they would specify how much of each pigment because that would help determine the price of the painting. So paintings with more blue and junk, some p***k wanted to show off how rich they were.

That was something I wondered about. I remember reading that certain colors were rare because it was hard to find the ingredients. Wasn't blue made from crushing lapis stone?

I know, fun fact, some of the stuff found in Egyptian tombs was fake. Not because it wasn't authentic, but because someone back then was cutting corners and not using real jewels. I found that funny when I read that. They also made fake animal mummies to sell for people.
