No, it's just a book. Let them think what they want. As long as I know what I drew :B 0.021505376344086 2.2% [ 2 ]

im very protective of it
its mine
it has MY ideas MY drawings
and i CANNOT STAND IT when my mother constantly looks over my shoulder at what im drwaing! GAH!! damn woman
but i dont care about the one i have for school. all my school projects are crap and very little effort is put in
I have a sketchbook, and I show my friends 99% of my drawings... but when random people come up to me and ask to look through it, I'm sort of embarrassed to find out if they like my art/humor/contents/style and whatever.
I wouldn't say I'm a perfect artist, or a horrible one, I guess I'm pretty good for my age? That's what my friends say. And I normally don't draw anything... you know, inappropriate (like what your parents would say). But I'm protective of my art and ideas because I'm afraid the person looking through my art won't find it appealing. And when someone doesn't like my art, I get sad-ish. And some work in there is old and I don't want people to think I draw like that when I've gotten better, even if improvement is made only over a few days/weeks.
I really don't like it when my parents watch me draw, because maybe if I'm drawing a guy and a girl kissing, they'll get all freaked out 'cuz they don't know that I draw stuff like that. But when, like people from school or my friends watch me draw, it's okay because they know my style and what I draw and they'll give me honest criticism.
PS: I don't really use my sketchbook anymore. I draw on anything else (even my arms) I have at the moment because I'm too lazy to open up a new page in a book and make smudges all over a good page that can be used for something else.
I'm protective of condition of my sketchbook. I freak when people touch my pencil work, and I has the scare of my life when it got iced tea spilt on it. Thankfully the damage was minimal.

As for others looking at my art, I don't mind. People usually ask me before and I always agree. I admit I'll skip or clip together pages I'm not proud of, but that's not a lot. Most of the time I get compliments which makes me happy, but crits are also welcome to an extent.
I used to be protective of my sketchbook, but I've basically started censoring it so I don't have to be. People who go, "OMG T3H SUCK" or "OMGNEKKIE" suck, but... I like to let people see my stuff and it's too much of a bother to explain "No no! I'm not a perv! Really!"

So, if there's a picture that someone might go "OOOOOHNEKKID!1" over, I pull it out and scan it after it's finished. If I'm drawing the body of a person (before drawing the clothing) I hide it till I've gotten the basics drawn, then draw a few lines at strategic places so I can say, "NUH-UH! SEE! CLOTHING!" Of course, I leave the drawings of plush toy designs in there and those are freakin' bizzare...

And I've never had a problem with someone actually messing (tearing, pouring water on, etc.) with a sketchbook that I can remember, so I've got no reason to be paranoid. =3
I hate it. I understand the whole 'if you have it people will look at it' thing, human curiosity. But when you say, no, and they take it from you thats just mean.
Especialy when no one will actualy say your good, haveing proof your not. (Clossest I've gotten was Maya saying I was pretty good, and better than her, sometimes, but her friend Krista was way better. She's pretty wacky, so from her thats a compliment.)
If I'm not useing it it's usualy under my pencil box (grade-schoolish but those things rock, and my bag broke) and whatever book I'm currently reading. So to have someone grab it, knock over my pencil box scattering it's contents all over the floor, and looseing my place in my book, and ontop of that flipping through my sketchbook without my perrmision is bound to miff even the most mellow person.
It's only natural for someone to be protective of the things they created, like a mother and child a sketch book is precious to an artist. Still you shouldn't let those who don't even know what art is get you down.

so long as art is your passion you will always meet people who don't understand or have different view as to what your art is. For example the sketch book I take to school tends to have some... umm.. semi-adult images... however when they are pointed out like 'Haha boobs' I merely shrug it off. I ushually am choosy as to who i show my sketch book to, as any artist should but if you ever want to show off your art in a gallery or make it public your going to have expect that there will aways be a few who... umm.. are less then artistically minded.

Oh-do-well xp sweatdrop
I don't mind, as long as they ask first of course. domokun

I tend to be nosy when other people draw, oh curiosity!
I don't drag it away from them though, just looking. ninja

I'm not too protective about it, but i do make people ask me first before they look. If it was on my desk, and someone just grabbed it, i'd take it back and tell them to ask me first before touching my book. They'd always ask to see it then, and i'd let them. I used to be crazy personal about my sketch book, but i found that as I got more confident in my skills, i wasnt afraid to show it off anymore.
Because people have the idea that my art comes out perfect right away and that it is easy, I like them to look through my sketch book once in a while. It shows them my process, my mistakes and all the ideas and hard work that didn't make it in to a completed piece. My take on it is that it's a sketch book, not a "finished art" book - so there is no pressure for me to have anything perfect in there.
well, protective in terms of it always hangs on my side, YES. protective in terms of "my eyes only?" no. i gladly show my artbook to people.

i guess my reason to draw is to show it to people, ne? unless you just draw because you like to.
I'm way overly protective of my sketchbook! Once I let this guy see a pencil drawing I did. It took me freakin' forever to finish it. This guy has it for less than 10 seconds hand he puts his hands all over it. He smeared it a whole lot cause pencil is so easy to get out of place. He's like "I love it so much!" while putting his filthy fingers on it! >.>

I'm like a hawk whenever someone borrows it.
It really depends on the content of your drawings, honestly. My friend knows someone at MICA who has an entire sketchbook of very explicit Yaoi, and she's not afraid to show it off at all. In fact, she asks people to look through it sweatdrop even if they don't want to.

So it really depends on two things: the content of your artwork and yourself as a person. Some people are shy and some are outgoing. I really think that in order to advance as an artist, you NEED to share those drawings and sketches that you feel are personal, because in reality, those drawings are your true art, your real emotions speaking out to the viewer.

So I mean...it's all up to you, but the more open you are about your artwork then the more accepting people are of you. If you shun people away and hide it, they will think that you might be rude or conceited...but that's life wink

Well, I have a notebook with things like cartoon and stuff and people will look on, but most of the time they're either respectful or don't know I even have a book I draw in. I draw Simpsons and stuff like that all the time.... so people know what I've got anyways.

I hate when people touch my sketch book without them asking me first. Because they could honestly ruin a picture that I could have been working on for months, in which has happened to me. But I don't mind showing off my art work. So, yea I am very picky on how touches my sketch book.
