i am not protective of my sketchbook because its its actually my deviantArt scrapbook, and thats on the computer. so i just scan it in and upload it to my devianart scrapbook, and then tear up the paper. i would put it in an actual category, but im too lazy to figure out what category my art should go into. the only person im trying to hide my art from is my dad. most of my scrapbook is a comic i made up, thats fanfiction. although, i get scared of people seeing the art before i rip it up. i am protective of my virtual scrapbook though, but only a little. i like virtual scrapbooks because you can put animations in there. but when im on the computer on deviantart and the teacher wants to see what im doing, i say "NOTHING JUST MSPAINT HEHE!" and i cover the screen, and some people think im looking at porn. truth is, when i am, i say "OMG THIS PORN IS FUNNY" so if i don't say that they know im not looking at anything sexually explicit, even thoe i am in junior high.

I am byond protective of my sketch book! scream I NEVER go anywhere without it! If someone asks to see it i usually say no. Even to my friends because they mostly have anatomy practice and they'll be like "ZOMG IT HAZ HEADLESSS PEOPLES! OMG ITS BOOBIES! I CAN SEE HIS CROTCH!" For goodness sake it's a angle OF COURSE YOUR GOING TO SEE IS CROTCH! emo

i know how you feel. some people mistake artistic nudity for porn
only because it has all my crappiest drawing in there sweatdrop
And yes, people have just grabbed it from me, then they ask "why do you draw these people, what are you drawing here?" My reply is usually "well it's a SKETCHbook, what did you expect, poetry?"
First, only friends who ask and i trust, in my sight, can look through. Second, i'm getting parriniod to the piont i'm actually NOT letting people look through AT ALL, even my artistic friends, witch saddens me, if it werent for the careless/rude people i wouldnt of become like this.

Next, i'm very carefull with my sketch book, so when i see it being miss treated, or gressy fingers touching pages, my heart race's with fear. One school mate in particuler has done damage to it and she's alwasy shouting about how i draw lots of "nekie" pictures of girls, adn how "perverted" i am (she's one to speak, belive me) i've stoped letting her through my sketch book (today i sat by her in class, i opened my small bag to get my note book out, and she was trying to dig through my stuff without asking D:< its like"gawddamn woman stay the *ef* out of my stuff!!!!", i admit i dont particuly like this girl)

Also i dont like my teacher going through my sketch book, he's not that graet at caring for art (i about SCREAMED when he told the students its ok to glue their work to cardboard, he dosent get the best of quality art supplies, even for the budget its lame, and i am in PAIN to see so many student due their final art on low grade printer paper, or rather pronter paper period!)
what's wrong with printer paper?
I mean, sure, for any sort of painting that doesn't make sense, but just for a pencil drawing of some sort? I've never paid for specialty paper o_o printer or dollar store paper pads work fine for me o_O;

but yeah, the other stuff you mentioned, about gluing their stuff to cardboard of all things... eek.
Well, I used to be really protective of my sketchbook, but now...Problem Solved biggrin

I just don't bring my sketchbook to school anymore and I don't draw much there either. Or else I get all these stupid questions like:

"What's with that Hand?"

"Omg, that's soo funny. It's bald!"

"What is she holding? How come she looks like that?"

"Ooh! So pretty, can you draw me one"

"OMG Can you teach me to draw? Please? Please? Pretty Please?"

And more...

And If I did bring some artistic nudity ( for my underdrawing )

They would probably be like:

"OMGS! You brought some Pr0n! You nasty..."

And I would be like "..."

So yeah...I guess that really had nothing to do with it
I'm...not protective of mine at all. People are curious. They'll become even more so if you keep it a secret. That and I take all of my sensual/personal stuff out, so to avoid questions. Sometimes I'll leave a naked-looking sketch or two in there to weird people out. wink

I only get snarky if someone starts fiddling with the edges of the paper or handles the book in a rough manner.
One time, my sketchbook got stolen in high school! O_0 Someone took it and had started drawing in it, but this skater kid (it was like 2001 lol) got it back for me. owo; I was a shy kid back then, so the gesture of mister skater kid rescuing my sketchbook meant alot ot me.

Tw T; Now, I barely touch my sketchbook. siigh
People are free to look at me sketchbooks if they like, I'm happy to show them. While there may be many problems with lots of the drawings, it's insightful to gather as many critiques or opinions as possible. ^^

I don't like people seeing certain pictures. I have a separate sketch book that I draw in sometimes, then I carry that one so if anyone (My brother mostly) asks if they can see it I gladly hand it over. Since my REAL pictures, that actually mean something to me, are tucked away nicely either in my bag or in my room. ^o^

No bloodshed and they get what they want.
I, too, am very passionate about keeping my sketchbook private. I really don't like criticism, when it comes down to it. I have my own style, don't tell me if my "heads are too bigs," "legs too long" or "eyes are too large." HELLLOOOOO! It's called personal style.

Just because I don't draw like you, or in "realism" style, doesn't mean my art is any less interesting or fun. So don't mock it. Don't put it down.

What I really hate is when people who have NO talent tell you that somethings wrong with the image. It's like: Um, I'm sorry, I showed this to you so you could go: "Wow! Nice picture, is that me?" not: "Oh, who's that? Why are they wearing my fave shirt? Oh, it's really stylized, am I really that tall?"

*twitch*
Theres been times where I had sketches I didnt want people to see and then people (usually the idiot boys in in my science class) took my sketchbook and tried to flip through it, well, I'm smaller than most people at my school (5'0, 104lbs), so when one of the boys takes it I jump on their back and attack them. XD

Regardless of if someone has talent or not they're still allowed to have an opinion and thoughts, not have to mindlessly praise something just because they can't do better. Just like how you can have an opinion on a musicial piece even if you're not musically savy :T
When I carried a sketchbook around with me all the time, yes, I was extremely protective of my sketchbook, and only let one person handle it because he was an open-minded photographer and understood that I valued every little scrawling in there. But.. I don't really draw on paper much anymore.
What ended up totally turning me off of it was an incident in high school. I left it in class to go to the bathroom, and came back to find a moron outlining one of my sketches with a runny roller ball pen. After getting over the initial shock, I cursed him out in front of the class and stopped drawing in sketchbooks - because I see that even people that have known you for years can lack respect for your personal property.
I am insanely protective of my sketchybook. I never used to be, but then people got into the habit of drawing on my work to show me "what I did wrong." No end to my annoyance and yelling at that one. When they learned to stop doing that, they started drawing on clean pages. Now, I don't know if its just me, but my sketchbook is used for my own practice and growth as an artist. So when I finally put an end to that, it became grabby fingers covered in foodstuffs. Now I sit on it whenever people are around. -.- Aside from maybe one person who's more neurotic about her book than I am about mine.

* sigh *
I get kind of embarrassed letting people look at my stuff because it's not very good. But there's a couple people I'm ok with looking at my stuff. One of my friends is way too stubborn and would wrestle it off me anyway...
