the way i see it...

gothic art - pre-renaissance, mostly architecture

dark art - the things you are describing.

but i'll add one more.. i think if you say "goth" art, it's to be expected that what you're drawing is something pertaining to the goth subculture. you wouldn't call gothic architecture "goth", so i think it's less likely to be mistaken.

Indeed. But because today Goth is a sort of scene, I think thats where the mishaps come from (my own opinion, sorry).

No it isn't. Poeple label my art all the time. It is so annoying. They say are you trying be gothic or something or is that suppose to be a goth. I really can't stand labeling it is stupid.

The trick is to draw practise if some one disagrees just remember it your art i didn't see them draw any part of it (cuz i wasn't there) but you know what i mean

yeah the gothic style relaly ended pre renaissance era..... people label anything "dark" or punk, goth for some reason. its just a mistake on their part. i wouldnt let it get to you. try using brighter colors and stuff, mix it up.

first time i showed my art to people they all said it was sooooooooooooooo dark and evil.... but i never saw it as dark... i thought it was happy becuase i was hppy when i made it LOL But um mostly i get good review and not so much wow thats evil... i guess its more how you intend it to look. Perhaps you are showing something in your art that you don't know you feel LOL

I draw alot of fishnet and dark makeup and crazy apparel.

I'm just a random kid, no emo or anny goth. But i also draw it, instead of people thinking its evil etc... i see it as a pasion. A way of drawing, just like when you draw anime or when you draw stick man rolleyes

Maybe what you draw is usually just assosiated with 'emo' things... doesn't mean your emo, it just means it looks like it to certain people, but certain people dont know sheet o_o;

All my drawings look demonic. No one bugs me anymore though. Just ignore them. there's nothing wrong with gothic art.

Gothic is a term used to describe archatexture, I dont mind it when people use the term gothic loosly to describe gowns or songs, But it is deffinetly a time period and style.
Round about the renaissance period, I have forgotten when exactly.
Goths have something to do with germanic followers but thats a different story....
