I watch (good) anime to study the animation. Last night I studied Kiki's Delivery Service again. heart

But the crappy anime for TV stuff, I only watch for fun. The animation in there is atrocious.

this

ill watch miyazaki movies when i want to get ideas on what i should do to give my drawings more depth since he puts alot of effort into the little details that you hardly notice but it makes his scenes feel believable

when i turn the tv to the anime channal im just watching for fun or becasue im in the mood for a bad plot
Manga is more useful than anime in learning. Watching films won't make you draw better really, the same kinda goes for anime - you need to study images.
Way to necro a 2 year old thread, guys.
what? no it won't.

Hey guys let's all post in a 2-year-old necro'd thread in which the OP possibly doesn't even use Gaia anymore!

Smegma Princess
How do people even find two and a half year old threads to bump them like this?
Exactly what I was thinking.
Personally, I don't think so, but that's just my opinion. You get better by just practicing. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!

I think actually watching anime will help you draw anime better...
But... That's just my opinion.
Input?

Over time yeah it did help me. Seeing different angles and how everything moved helped!

to me yeah , because when i watch anime , i pause on movements i like , know what they are and how are they made , and i draw the movements i see , it always works for me , so yeah anime helps me be a good artist and improve, but of course you should practice , don't just rely on watching anime ,oh and manga helps you too 3nodding

Yes and no....

For the no, as I have said many times. To draw better in anime you need to know anatomy, perspective, value, shading, color theory, etc etc. All forms of art are based on being able to draw things realistically and then stylize them. Most anime/manga artists are well studied in the fundamentals of art before they do their work and the ones that don't have works littered with bad mistakes.

As for the yes, after you have done all that studying in the basics and fundamentals, looking at other artists in your category of art can be very helpful. But this is only for advanced art students, not beginners. I can't stress this enough.
