Welcome to Gaia! ::

Hi, I'm studying animation and it's quite cool. :3
erm I'm also new here so I'll be totally awkward D:
so if you're studying art/animation, what's your favourite style?
I do self study. It's hard to pick a favorite but Medieval printing and illuminated manuscripts as well as Renaissance egg tempura have been interests of mine for some time.

I'm really sorry but I barely know what that is D: I know what medieval is but I don't know about the other stuff :p it sounds interesting though.
[p]Do you find it easy to study by yourself? I did for a while and it improved my art by a whole lot but I found extremely hard to concentrate (I have the attention span of a child lol).

In college I did some animation, 3d and 2d, and obviously art histories. Now I have to learn things on my own. I've been reading a lot of histories of fashion and architecture and I'm teaching myself webdesign. And of course fundamental drawing.

My mom took this sort of thing in college as well as learning to make a lot of different things foir herself. I will admit I started out by looking at the pictures. I'll give you some links to look at.

In medieval Europe learning was mostly concentrated in Monasteries and Religious institutions, Illuminated manuscripts were books that were decorated by the people transcribing them. At that time there was no printing for text so new copies of books were done by hand. Often this was done for the bible and religious texts.

There are also some in Islamic areas too but they tend to be geometric designs.

Egg tempura is a paint made with pigment and egg yolks, what interested me was how realistic some of these paintings were. Here is one I really liked.

Ohhh~! I'm interested in seeing a couple works you've done (that is, if you don't mind sharing them). ;D

I really hate to correct you, but van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait was painted in oil. (The National Gallery of London is the current owner of the original painting. I've taken a few art history classes and this was a major artwork I had to memorize.)

Sandro Botticelli painted Primavera Allegory of Spring (c.1478 ) in tempera paints around the same time (about 44 years after) Jan van Eyck did the double portrait. It has excellent details also. (This painting is in the collection of the Galleria Degli Uffizi in Italy, I couldn't find a direct link on their official site with the paintings information. I got the info on both of the paintings from ARTstor )

Actually, I'm studying Fine Arts right now and a few years ago I was studying Animation.

One of my favorite art movements is Impressionism.

For animation, I really liked the style for Hanna-Barbera Productions during the 1960s-1970s.

By all means correct me if I'm wrong, I had thought that was egg tempura. Thanks for the info, I'm glad to get it.
