If Graffiti is done for no monetary value or recognition (Sometimes) it is therfore the purest form of art... or is it. What do you think?

But how would that make it the purest form of art?

Art, to some, is expression of the soul or heart. Its not done for money, fame, or power (Usually), but instead to get a point across. It pure as it can be incorruptable when not gang related...

I wouldn't know if it was the "purest" form of art, but ever since becoming more serious about art, I tend to see Graffiti just as that, art. Even if it vandilizes buildings and such. whee I would actually like to try it sometime.

Its fun and can be good for the community (When you get permission of course, but cops still call it illegal). My Abuela's neighborhood in NYC has paintings all over of different places in South America, since its a hispanic neighborhood. The cops hate it, but the people who live around them love it.

Its not some private art for your home or fancypants museum, its for everyone in the community.

It's like that here too, except most of our graffiti ends up on our skateboard park. Lots of the people here are like "AJgsdkjfgs! Why are they doing that?!" It's like basic knowledge; give kids a skateboard park and they are going to graffiti it. I have yet to see one that hasn't any graffiti on it. XD

You can paint/draw/sculpt/create without making the point monetary too. I don't think you can reach a 'pure' form of art. It's completely subjective.

On the flip side, we have some great murals outside my school that are under a bridge, but all around it are ugly tags and random things kids spraypaint when they are bored at night. Which is just vandalism.

What type of graffiti is it at the skate parks?
Symbols?
Words?
Colors?
Other?

well, it's official then thanks to WyvernLord... a dog pissing on a fire hydrant is now the purest for of art.

Yes I do art, just not for /YOU/

No. I would not call it the purest form of art.
Most of it looks like s**t anyway.

Dear Gaia- You aren't worth it.

Words I think, some animals and plants like unicorns and mushrooms ( xd ), and a bunch of inappriopriate things. Like male body parts. Now that I think about it, there could be gang names on there too. But not giant gangs, just kids my age trying to be "cool". stare

ahhhhh... to you maybe, but to somebody it may be something nice to them. Art is from the soul, its meant to please whoever made it. Yes some may like it while others may hate it.

Saying it looks like s**t is just your opinion...

Yeah my grandma's "Hood" has that problem too, although big gangs like MS-13 and the Latin Kings are actually living in the same buildings so that makes interesting scenarios everyday... stare ...abuela gets the worst of it...

But you can figure out who made those paintings/drawings/sculptures/etc, while with graffiti you can sometimes never figure out who made it unless its for recognition or you catch them doing it.

"We're surrounded, that simplifies the problem..."
Thats a pretty bold statement.

How is graffiti created on a government building made to argue racial tension more pure then a commissioned canvas work use to promote human equity?

Because one wasn't paid for it?
Because one doesn't have a name?

Would the graffiti mean less if it did have a name and was commissioned?
Would the canvas work mean more if it was the other way around?

I don't think so.
I'll admit that graffiti can be artistic and even hold a powerful message but to call it the purest form is a slap to the face to all other forms of art.
