should I get copic, copic sketch or copic ciao? what's the difference?which one is better?
is a 72 color set copic for $315 on ebay worth it?
and is it actually worth it to buy copic markers after all?

Find a place that sells them individually. Test them out to see if you even like them before you toss in your $300+. If you like them, I find it much easier to start with a small collection and then expand over time. It gives you more time to bond with each color.

I think there's too many of these threads....
Ciao - Is smaller, and more round in shape. Has less ink, and can not be attached to airbrush system.
Sketch - Larger, more rectangular, Has more ink and can be attached to airbrush system.

I suggest Ciao. You'll never really use the airbrush system anyways. And Ciao's cheaper.

ah okay thanks for the imput

there are only two stores that sells copic makers where i live and are super expencive and doesnt have a whole lot variety of colors, that's why I would like to buy a whole bunch of copic at once to get it over with ^^;; but yeah, $300.oo does seem like a lot.. so i dont really know DX

It's better to test them out at the stores first, usually they have little pads of paper to do so.

$315 isn't bad, if it includes shipping, but you should also check out various art store sites that sell the set to make sure you can get the most out of your money. Such as a set of 72 (copic sketch) is $300 on dickblick.com-- excluding shipping.

Copic markers are actually worth it if you are into that kind of style (usually done with mangas), and if you have the money to do so. If money is an issue, you can try searching for different types of markers (prismas, neopikos... i think that's what they're called).

You can always check out the official site CopicMarker.com for references. They should have everything you need to know in terms of different marker types, accessories, papers and inks.

$300.00 is a lot of money. Cari's got the right idea about looking for stores that sell the markers seperately - You'll find that some of the colours in the packs you'll rarely use, so it's kinda worth while to build your own stash. Copics are wonderful in their blending capabilities and you can totally make your own colours that way.

$300 is a lot of money... so it's kind of sad when I was doing the math I realized it actually costs about $130 more to purchase the set in pieces. that really is a lot of money for some markers.

but yeah, seconding (thirding) everything that's been said. try out a few see if you like them. When i went to check them out I had a pic I thought would look good with marker and I figured out what colors I'd need for that picture and those were the only markers I bought. basically my philosophy is not to buy a color till you need it if you can get away with that.

Also, from what I've learned... you don't really need the colorless blender. I don't know. I might buy it one day just to see what it's like but on the whole it's not really necessary

Ciao markers are quite nice; they're smaller barrels, closer to the size of a Crayola marker. I use a set of Ciaos at work, and have a set of Sketches at home, and like them both.

For lower price options, I recently had the opportunity to shop at http://artsuppliesforless.com/ (webstore not open yet, so bookmark it for later if you're interested, their Copics were cheap cheap cheap) and their prices were very fair; I also like using local art stores, which will often price things at a lower rate.

I use the ciao markers and I think they're great. Much more blendable than the prismacolor markers (which I have as well.) I like the soft tips and the amazing blending ability. I don't like the tips on the larger copics, they don't give you the paint brushy feel that the ciao markers do.

So my vote is for ciao. and 300 is not a good deal.

I think the markers list at $284 for a set of 72.

I bought a small set of either 36 or 12, I don't remember. Then every year at A-Kon (anime convention in Dallas) I buy a few more that I find myself looking for (if at all) when using them. You get such a range of color from just one ciao, you would be suprised how few markers you need.

Anywho. I hope this helped! -L

my friend will bring her copic markers for me to test out next week >w< ! yeah!

i already have some prisma markers but they dont blend well and are much too vibrant DX~

oh, and $300.00 is for normal copic; on ebay, a 72 ciao set is only around 200 dollars.

I will definitely go and check the art store to see if it's cheaper >3 ( i'll probaly bring a calculator there XD)

thanks for all the suggestions and comments

First you can buy 2 or 5 copics and test them ^^
i own copic ciao's and they are great mrgreen and §350 is a "normal" price for a 75set i think ^^

If you go to the actual COPIC website, they give you the pro's and cons to each type of COPIC marker. I have found myself in favor of COPIC Sketch markers personally. They allow for the most expansion into other methods of application for example airbrushing, which allows you to expand your skills as an artist much greater than CIAO or The other types. Just don't buy the multiliners. I did, and I found the tips to bend, fray, and dry out WAY too easily (and I am hardly rough with my pens.) Go with either caligraphy pens or STAEDLER fine tip pens (Come in packs of one or four) But as far as COPIC goes, I highly recomend SKETCH. They come in a wier variety of colors and are the most versatile of the Copic marker family.

I have honestly NEVER had this issue with my multiliners... I've got a set of four (well, five now, but I haven't used the new one yet) SP Multiliners, as well as one free basic Multiliner that I drag around and use for detailing and various other elements in my work.

I will add, I have a very light touch with my pens; my primary inking pen is a Pentel Pocket Brush, and you can NOT press at all with one of those... But either way, my Multiliners are still giving me beautiful lines.

Well, it's up to you in the end, but I prefer the COPIC original. I'm not sure if they are more expesive or not, but they seem to have more ink than the sketch (not sure about ciao).

I've been having these weird thoughts lately,

Like, is any of this for real, or not?
