Welcome to Gaia! ::

I have been reading up on Color Theory lately but for some reason I just don't understand any of it well.
Does anyone have some like Color Theory for the Stupid links or anything like that
or could it be I will never understand cuz im colorblind.

Here is a chart of what I can and can not see

So the two color bars look exactly the same to you?

Being colorblind and color-stupid are two very different things. I think that by using the color wheel (and not just a bar), and utilizing the knowledge of color theory, it *might* be possible for you to produce solid works in full color... But if I were in your position, I think I would just use the colors I can see and see what I can do with those. I want to be able to look and enjoy my works the way others can.
I've seen great colored work from color blind students. Some paint what is around them as they see it, with some really trippy results, and others maneuver using the fact that almost all mediums label their products with the color.

im colorblind myself but what helps me are

- sets with labels
- using more extreme shades of the color - like i cant tell difference between green and brown so i use a much lighter or darker shade of the color

I don't think color blindness should stop you. It may force you to work a bit harder to achieve the same results, though.

My advice would be to work in grayscale for awhile and really understand values. If you can get the values right, using color becomes a lot easier and more intuitive. And if the value is correct, you can use almost any color and it'll still look okay.

Try it sometime: Take an image from one of the old painting masters and gray-scale it. Does the image still look okay? If so, then it's evidence that the values were correct. The darks are still dark and the lights are still light. That is a good thing and something to aim for no matter what colors you use.
I Think I will work on Values Im sure I can apply it to other things later on as well.
Then Ill work with colors
Wouldn't it be easier to understand everything with colors after you understand Values?
I know some things for color like Use Complimentary colors like Red and Green instead of using Contrasting colors like Red and Blue and stuff like that; I wish I had enough units to take color and design at the college, but I'm over my remedial units so I can't take it unless it transfer.
Does anyone have any good books or sites That are free for use? or that I can find at the public Library?
I've always wondered how someone would explain color theory to both of the colorblind types.

If it's too much of a hurdle at the start to use all colors, you could try studying value/shading in monochrome using the colors you can identify on the spectrum. I imagine it would help, then using the same principles you've learned, you could do sketched and color-practices with the others on scrap papers until you're comfortable.
I'm...still really not sure how that works. I'm sorry. sweatdrop
