What, you expect something constructive in Art Discussion?

There really is a ton of spam in here, for such a clearly defined forum. D:

Well, I don't know. I think it's some people who just come through here, read some (or all) of the thread, and just think it's appropriate to express that they thought it was cool.

Not realizing that people like me, with no life, are board and our constantly visiting their thread subscription page to see if threads like this one are updated. I am touched with excitement, then disappointment.

Sorry, I'm done rambling now. ;-;
If they think the thread is so cool, they should care enough to post more than one word. >.< Or at least capitalize and punctuate.
They probably are just spamming... it reminds me of the spam I see up in the Art Theft sticky, all the "omg cool" and "art is awesome" crap that fills that up.

And so I'm not just spamming.... http://clearbags.com/ <- Packaging for things! My friend who pointed me to them uses it for her comics and commissions, which I'm personally going to start at my next event; I think it'll be nice to have a clear protective bag over my comic so it can be carried around without worry, and also so when I put together my bundle of books, I can just drop them all into one bag with their premium and be able to just grab one thing out from under the table instead of five.

Also: Does anyone know a really good source for bookmarks? (I've seen Paper Forest (?) listed here, but I'm looking for others too so I can shop around, I want as cheap as possible and as good as possible ^^ )
Paper Forest does not print fanart, so I end up not using it (maybe someday when I want to sell my original characters/art).

I suggest you buy some bookmark sleeves and print/cut the paper to the sleeve. I remember Melon Pan sold quite a bit in the last conventions ^^. The prints that went into the sleeve was rather flimsy, but the art and sleeve really made up for it.
I don't really do fanart, personally, so that's actually not an issue for me. ^_^ I'll check out the link you gave there, though, thanks! biggrin (And if anyone else has suggestions, I'll gladly take them too!)
Wow, thanks for the great link! biggrin I've been looking for somewhere to get good bags from.
Within some weeks we'll have a huge japanese immigration festival here in my city. Even if it doesn't have anything to do with anime, it gathers a lot of game and anime geeks, so it's a nice place to sell stuff.
This thread will be really useful for me, thanks!
If I buy a table in this fest I'll come back here to tell my experiences. domokun

Most people are focusing on Anime Expo at this time, but you might want to post some information about this festival. Some people might get interested and drop by and give different perspectives on certain places and events.
Heh, I can't go to AX myself (much too far away), and I like the smaller venues better anyway. My favorite of the events so far this year (excluding internet issues... stare ) only attracted about 4-500 attendees, and it was GREAT!

I'm thinking I'm going to go to Kinko's and see what kind of printing services they might offer that could work for bookmarks... on the site that was linked earlier, though, there's a good chance I'll pick up some tassels, because I always feel like bookmarks look better that way (and are harder to lose). Otherwise, I'll end up with Paper Forest, but I don't want that many bookmarks of a single design, honestly...

I agree with you on the smaller venues--so far I've been meeting with more success there than at larger cons (but that doesn't mean I'm giving up!).

I can give some information, but I doubt anyone here can drop by, since most Gaia users are in North America and Europe, and I live in the other side of the world...

I live in Curitiba, a big city in the south of Brazil, and the japanese community is huge here in my state. There are 3 great festivals every year (Imin, Haru and Hana Matsuri), besides other smaller japanese culture parties, which happen almost every month. The attractions usually are music, taiko and martial arts demonstrations, bon odori (traditional dance, anyone can join), lots of food stands (this is probably the main attraction) and other stands selling stuff. A lot of anime fans gather in these festivals, many of them cosplayed. So many shops sell anime and manga stuff, even fanzines. But I haven't seen anyone sell prints of their own art, and I'm very tempted to try. My style isn't manga-ish, but fortunately most anime fans here also love RPG and games, so I think my dragons and bare-naked elves can be sucessful. ninja

My other plan is to put my prints up for sale at local comic, RPG and rock-wear stores (metal fans LOVE fantasy art). Make a deal with the owner, and divide the gain of the sells. It's less lucrative, but it's a good way to sell your stuff outside conventions. Anyone ever tried that?
