People who always draw girl's boobs waaaaaaaaaay to big. If it's a joke or there's just one character who's supposed to be like that it's fine. But if they draw ALL of them like that and they're supposed to be serious, it just makes me go "Ew, you perverts".
I also don't like in all the cartoons how they rarely ever shade. But that's not really a big deal for me, it's not like I won't watch something because of that.

I hate fanart.

Fan art in most cases should not be considered "your art". I don't mind the use of drawing other's characters to improve your skills but when you run around showing it off as if you made something fantastic, that's when you need to stop.

More specifically I hate yaoi/yuri fan art of characters that would never be tofether just because you have some slap happy dreams about them being together i.e.: Duo and Heero.

This all also falls under "Trying but utterly failing". You can try and do anime style but unless you get it right....just keep working. Like Teen Titans. That's some fail right there. Avatar can also fall under this catagory. It attempts the anime style and pulls it off very well but there are times when they have either too many anime faces or just...the wrong ones.

And I have to say something about no one seeming to use a skeleton/fleshing out their characters....it looks like everyone just whips something out and hopes it looks great. No one can do that.

People who get a program like Photoshop and think that that by some miracle is going to make their art a bazillion times better. Not gonna happen. If there's a problem with your line art no matter what you do good coloring isn't going to fix it. As well as those who think the filters and brushes are the best things to make your work better. If you can tell you used it you used it wrong.

The strange use of colors should stop too. Colors should work together but a lot of what I see these days are strange color combinations and random colors

Modern art needs to die.

I don't see how painting a large red square in the middle of a huge white canvas is art. It means nothing to anyone and just wastes canvas. Nor do I understand the over use of impressionistic art. It just looks like you're retarded, rolled around on the canvas and seriously cannot draw.

Ahem....I know I do fall under some of these categories but it still urks me.

Kids running around squealing "i'm an artist LOLOL!" Then they come face to face with REAL art and think they can do better than it.

Example.

In my Art Foundations class I took at the beginning of this school year there was a few people in there who thought they were "artists". One of the asked my opinion on an abstract piece we had to do for a project. I tell her "Well think about the color wheel to try and make some of the colors pop more, and try not blending those colors because that it what is making it look muddy... blahblahblah." She just starred at me like I had four heads and pretty much said something like "you're stupid" Then the art teacher came over and told her to do the exact same thing I told her to do.

It was pretty much like that all class, she asked for my advice, I give her some she doesn't listen then the art teacher comes over and tells her the exact same thing I did.

So basiclly I hate all the kids who now like anime, decide to draw it, think they're artists and don't listen to sound advice because they're so much better than anyone else.
Honestly, people. I would like to keep on reading about this thread.
But I don't have the time to. XD
So many rants.
So many intelligent people. <3
Well, what I hate? KH fan art.
I'm not really into that game, but really seeing RikuxSora all over the place. It's just no. Then most people who draw that, at the same time dis Kairi for being in the way of their yaoi fantasies.

Another thing, I agree with Nantonaku about modern art and fanart does get old. I hate the fact how people draw fanart just to get in the popular category. D: I get that they could draw whatever they wish, but if they're just doing it to get popular it's just not cool.

I hate seeing yaoi stuff in the popular category too. D: I mean I know the saying, "If you don't like it, don't look at it." Well, that's kinda hard not to if it infested my beloved interests every time I look up something I like! Alright, someone said something about Fruits Basket. And I have to agree with that person. I hate the style. The big giant eyes seriously annoy me! It's like 'Wah! Alien girls!'. The guys look weird in FB too.

However, there are still some things I disagree with in this thread. XD For instance, the storyline in manga. Some of you are complaining about how poorly it's drawn and about the storyline lacks depth. I disagree. A manga can be loved even without splendid art. I mean seriously, atleast they're decent. If you're complaining about Sailor Moon or Dragonball Z. Believe it or not. The artists were considered great back then.

I mean I read Case Closed and Megatokyo. And I love both to bits! I mean Case Closed? I think the art's good. I don't see anything wrong with it. I think Megatokyo's decent nowadays. I just don't like the art style in Fruits and storyline no matter how popular it is. I read what I want to read.

Well, I need to complain about something. My friend keeps complaining about how if a manga or book is approved by the school it sucks. I'm not saying she's right. I mean seriously I'm about to complain about her now! I bought some mangas from there and some books as well. She didn't buy anything if it was considered appropriate by the school(like Sakura Taisen, The Dreaming, Twilight, Artemis Fowl, Ugly). I tried to explain to her that it's just as great as any other manga or book. She was flipping through a manga book and she started complaining about the art style. She did that with Megatokyo too.

Now, I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything. XD But she hardly knows anything about books, manga, and art. Then this year she starts acting like a know it all in these categories. When it comes to books she starts saying stuff like "Don't get that." And I'll be like "Why?" Because of the cover it's stupid.

None really piss me off. There's no point getting worked up over something so stupid that you could just ignore anyways. They're not worth the effort.

When I was younger I used to have a TON of things that would get my goat, but now I could really care less. I enjoy doing what I do, and heck, if they want to enjoy what they like to do, let them. You're just sticking a thorn in their side and yours getting worked up over it.

Thank you. heart
I agree on the "I'm too old to care what other people are doing." Unless what they are doing affects me directly, it's not really an issue.

I don't hate fanart. It's been around for as long as people have been drawing. When Og the caveman single handedly defeated the cave lion, his adoring tribe drew cave art to immortalize his accomplishment. The story of Og became immortal with those illustrations.

Ok... so maybe those cave paintings are actually for ceremonial purpose to symbolize the spirit of a target prey.

So let's fast forward to our early society... when ancient Egyptians decorated their pharoah's tomb with illustrations of a good life so he can make it to the afterlife.

Or ancient Romans who would have gladiator action figures of their favorite gladiator.

This really isn't a new concept to idolize something and create artistic impressions of that person's or god's likeness. Whether it be the Roman potter who makes Spartacus action figures or Marge Simpson drawing portraits of Ringo Starr.

And what really is the difference between a fanartist and an illustrator? An illustrator gets paid or some "official" recognition... but that doesn't stop them from being a fan of the work they are illustrating for.... example, Alan Lee always loved Tolkien even when he wasn't drawing cover art or working on the Peter Jackson movie. If someone does Gaia fanart and they are suddenly employed by Gaia to be an artist, what is the main difference between what they were doing (fanart) and what they are doing now (artist)?

Yes I make fanart plushies and it's my hope that one day I'll get to work for a company that wants me design an official plushie. At least when I show fanart plushies they can compare what I did to the official images to see how well I can make a 3D design out of 2D source material.

It's not like fanart is completely useless or serves no purpose... so no, I don't mind the trend and I somewhat resent that what I do is generalized to being something to "make me popular" and "because everyone else is doing it." Especially since my fandoms are so not very popular at the places I display my stuff. How many people YOU know watch the original Star Trek series or Red Dwarf? The average person I run into on DA doesn't even know who Mr. Spock or Dave Lister is.

Why does piss you off? it's nice to look at sometimes
Because when it comes to drawing animals like dogs and cats, that's all there is.

It's possible that the reason I don't see any "original"-style animals is because I don't stray very far away from DeviantArt, but DA is still a huge, huge website with tons of artists. Style-wise, there's nothing really wrong with it. Someone in another thread told me that it was a style utilized by Disney and other animation studios because, yes, it's nice to look at and because it's more efficient to draw/animate. That's fine.

But that's all you ever see! That just bugs the hell out of me. Large-eyed, furry dogs and cats with big paws seem to be the ONLY kinds of dogs and cats ever drawn. And it's always just the dogs and cats. I really wouldn't mind so much if more artists applied that Disney style to, say, a sunfish or maybe a star-nosed mole. It'd show versatility and creativity using an already banal style.

In a way, it's similar to the reason why people hate anime art. These noob artists draw their furry Simbas and Baltos in the same poses all time because it gets them "popular," because people like the style, or "cool" because they're copying a professional studio's style. Proof? My friend draws in that style. She's not the best artist in the world, and her work tends to be kind of sloppy (she uses photoshop grass gonk ) but she's still got 50k+ pageviews on her DA. She also draws the same poses over and over. People eat it up like starved wolves devouring a rabbit.

Fortunately, she CAN draw actual animals realistically, which, I think, puts her a head above a lot of Disney artists. She doesn't do it often, though, and tends to do more cutesy Disney stuff because it obviously gets her more popularity.

To me, the Disney style stands for all the banality and shallow reasons for getting into "art" as anime does. =T

Yet another over 18 thing here, but it feels like I'm the only one who draws artistic n***s (I haven't seen much in the way of recent stuff), and when I draw actual erotica, I feel like the only person but my bf who wants people to be happy during sex.

That is annoying. I dont like how those same people are afraid to expiriment with new styles too.
katy coope styled beginner drawingings. she just ruined those beginners chances of being good.
oh and when people think it looks cool to draw anime people with one angel wing and one devil wing. it's ******** tacky and no longer "original" so don't do it. that is all [well not really there are a million other things that piss me off but i shall not take the time to think up em all]

omg it's worse when it's a beginner and they think "oh all anime characters HAVE to have big boobs, so i will draw them horriblely so that they look like she stuffed two deformed cantalopes up her shirt!! thatll look great!" and it's worse when they are like "hmm, well i wnat her to be skinny, but since it's anime, she has to have giant boobs" so that in the end, they have drawn a toothpick with two deformed cantalopes as boobs.

Fanart suffers from this so badly. Look, if the original creator made her have little breasts, they they have little breasts. Deal with it. If you really need big boobs, go find someone else. There are tons of characters with big boobs out there.
I hate the big boob craze. Then I got a commish request asking me to do it... Whatever, I get gold XD.

I hate beginners who think they're good. Or think they know something TT.

I hate stuck-up artists who are older than you. I understand the different between helping and patronizing TT, though they appear not to.

I like fanart, it's nice break every once and a while, but I hate obsessive endless fanart,

Nude art.I don't care what you say;naked people are not,and never will be,art. They're just...naked people.

Well, you must either 1.] be a christian, 2.]have some horrible looking body, or 3.] be insecure with the new generation, and not be able to accept nudity as art.

Either way, you just need to get over it. BTW, I love to draw busty women =O!!!

It seems a lot of people are picking on this person. Can we just leave it be? It was simply her opinion, and is she not allowed to have that? Sure, I disagree with it, but that doesn't mean I have to attack her. I think one of the reason's people is getting so upset is because it's one of those things they 'feel' they should stick up for. So why not get as upset about some of the other things people don't like?

All I'm saying, is that it was simply an opinion, and people don't need to start getting personal for that. ( and you know, that is such a stereotype of Christians stare Not cool. )

I hate when people think that if I draw something and I draw n***s (or they found my erotica even), they think I'll draw both; i.e. someone asked for pron of my werewolf, who is a very shaggy humanoid, and someone even wanted to know what my 'mermaid' was like naked (my mermaid being from the mythology where mermaids are hideous women who drag men to their death and drown them and use them to procreate before killing them).
