Has one of the things very common in your art been listed? (Not that it's important for you to care...)

i think art should be something of creativity and originality. I hate it when ppl critique on wat ppl do the don't think how much effort it took. They would say that anyone could of done it. That pisses me offfff pirate

Sorry, but it sounds kinda like this.

To be honest Im pretty annoyed with the whole "cute anime" drawings.
Sometimes, I get -annoyed- by people saying 'OOH PRETTY ARTWORK'...then they say 'DRAW ME!'

Goodness, I know, I have artsy talents, but honestly, I am not a lean, mean, drawing-everybody-for-free machine. The people I do artwork for are people I respect, or they are paying me in return for artwork. People have to buy volumes of manga to keep the manga artist financially afloat- it's the same for me, as well.

I hate that especially when they add 'oo! Lookit the symbolism of it!' to it.

rofl That's brilliant. I'd have to agree whole-heartedly.

Um, the 'valid reason' never applied to what i was talking about. As I said three times. 'The law' was repealed ten years ago, I was looking at stuff far newer than ten years ago.

Also, 90% was made in America, where such law did not exist.

Actually, I don't recall you clarifying that when I originally asked, which is where this communication issue seems to be coming from, although it's totally possible I have missed a comment. All I saw was that you said was 'that law was repealed', which really didn't answer my question. My telepathic powers must not have been working at full capacity to know you meant 'artwork drawn in America after the law had been repealed'. So sorry, I'll try harder to read your mind next time! xd

A trend I'm really not liking is, again, artists bashing other artists or their artwork or even posting it on forums for people to make fun of. That's a nasty, low thing to do. I can't respect anyone who claims to be an artist and then posts artwork from amateur artists with the sole intention of ripping it apart and saying 'this artist must die/they suck/they should stop drawing and burn all their pencils right now'.
It's probably been said before, but I read eight pages of backlog and I couldn't be bothered reading the other forty-seven biggrin

All the things that people have been bitching about so far... I've done a lot of them. I'm sure that a lot of people have done a lot of these trends.

No backgrounds, overly simple anime, abuse of digital editing tools, laziness... cover most of them, really. And I guess that they're learning steps. I had a thread somewhere once, posting up some of my simplest stuff when I was just getting into anime art. I wanted praise of course. Everyone was really harsh about it. Basically: you suck, go study proportions. It was character building biggrin

Anyway, this isn't about me. That was for context. What I guess I'm trying to say is that I dont dislike any art trends so much as:

The people behind them who wont admit that they did it because it was popular.

The people who wont even think about some other art form or style

The people who aren't even aware enough to realise where they went wrong as an artist [became fixated on one thing so much that they wore it out]

The people who won't take criticism.

It's kinda like good/evil debates. Nothing is really good or evil, only the intent behind it. No trend is bad or good.

Actually... trends start off good and interesting and become bad. Another birth/life/death pattern, hurray biggrin

Anyway, that's me rambling. I just don't think it's simple enough to say "that artistic technique sucks and should be shot". I don't think it's that simple.

The posts got lost in the rest of the thread. I don't care if you missed them, but perhaps if I'm still trying to get my point across, I think you may want to ask about the law instead of driving it home.

Since you posted a topic about politeness, which I agree with you unless the artist volunteered and were leading in the 'Look! I can't draw' giggle fest, perhaps that'd be a better route in other convos.

But on your topic, I agree.

If someone asks for a critique and they want an honest one, they do need to have somewhat of a thick skin because not everyone's idea of 'nice' is the same. I've had people get pissed at me because I said something as generic as 'the feel of the image is nice, but the bend of the arm is off and it brings the level of the picture down'.

What I'm thinking of is more of the...vicious, really unnecessary shredding of another artist of their work, for no reason. We had a thread in here earlier today that stated 'THIS ARTWORK IS s**t' and then posted a bunch of images from young artists. That's just so incredibly rude, I have no words for it. And it's pathetic, I can't imagine who would get pleasure from shredding someone else in a really nasty way, for no reason. Critiquing is totally different from just plain, outright cruelty.
