Hallo there, Gaia!

I'm sure that you've all gone browsing through comic books at your local store or cartoons on your TV and gazed upon something that didn't quite sit well with you...and then gazed upon it a hundred plus times after the fact. eek

This thread is all about it! Here I hope we can discuss (in a light hearted fashion, I hope) things in the art world that...really just get under our skin.

I've got a few of my own, but this is more about you guys. biggrin

Any way, please tell us! And make it something specific, please? As specific as you can get, anyway.

They have to actually be trends, btw...

Shoot. ninja
Megatokyo. Terribly drawn, IMO. Fred doesn't even ink his drawings before he puts them up.

And people eat it up like the elixer of the gods. O_o;
I really hate the art in Furuba. The artist couldn't draw anything macho if she tried, the eyes are far, far too large for the eyeballs to even fit in the character's heads, even the guys have pencil necks, and yet there are still so many fangirls! AAAUGH!

And also Yuki looks like an axe-murderer.
Things in the art world that get under my skin? When Photoshop default stamp and special effects brushes along with filters get raped to death in art work, especially with the 'star twinkle' stamp brush. It's been abused so much that it should just be put out of its misery.

I thought he was a good storyteller, though. These days I don't read it and haven't for really long, but the storytelling and how easily accessible (this is a design related thing) it was to get into it was pretty well done.

About art trends (and design, if I may?) ... well, anime is currently a mainstream trend. As with all trends, it starts out with a great idea, it becomes way popular and suddenly everyone is doing it. It brings a lot of "visionaries" who forget the basics which the trend sprung out from in the first place.

The idea of "Web2.0" annoys me as well, because no one seems able to TRULY define it and they're already starting to talk about "Web3.0"? It annoys me because what seems like the next obvious step in web development, a future we can all sense has just turned into a buzzword. D: sigh

I find trends in general stupifying because they're overhyped and get twisted from their original meaning. I prefer trying to understand the trend itself, but usually the followers seem like shallow people who don't get it anyway.

.... Sex me.
I ******** agree with you.
Badly drawn catgirls with IMPOSSIBLY large boobs >w>;;; *not so much talking about comics as I am talking about some people online*
The current trend I see a lot ESPECIALLY ON GAIA are style whores. Loish, Bara Chan, Precious Flame, you name it, they all have whores who take their styles down to the last eyelash.
I hate the shock-value art, (Like that woman who stuck a kittens head on a vase and called it art) when the action behind creating it are what caused the stir.
Kingdom Hearts whoring. D: It's great and all but when you start seeing two of them up on the popular section on devart everyday, it's gets stupid.
Catgirls piss me off.
Those iPod things too. With the silhouette and the white ear phone cord and the iPod. Yeah one or two is cool. Some people do it for EVERYTHING.

I never like Furuba. I don't like huge-eyed anime people in general.
To be honest, I don't like chibis. They just don't look right...

I agree with Sylph on the shock value art.
I don't care what mental defect or disorder you have, what your 'message' is or even if its just 'creatively'.
I do not see the point of taking another creatures life for entertainment purposes of your self, or others.
Even if there is 'a message' behind it.
SO THAR>

My current peeve is one towards dA.
Its the sudden increase in inflation art and general nudity.

I know, I know. Its been complained about before, but damn.
For a while there (and yes, it has gotten a little better since then), every 4th deviation on the 'popular' page had a pair of boobs the size of large party balloons or a rather interestingly posed lady.

Yes, I also know 'WHY DON"T YOU TURN ON YOUR CONTENT FILTER?!".
Because I don't mind a little nudity - creative or artistic, I can live with ot.
I even don't mind some of the well done fetish stuff.
I just don't like to see that much, or to be more exact - that kind.

Particularly the inflation art - the overly bloated nude cat girls.
You know what I mean - its not just a little over weight, or even obese - its just plain stupid, nor is it pretty (or well done 90% of the time).

I know there has to be people who like it out there (other wise, how would it get the popular features its been getting recently?), but I'm not one of them k.

and you wanna know what’s scary?
These pieces of art are the kinds of art that represent dA, because face it. The first thing a person is going to look at when the join is probably be the popular galleries.

and I don't want no 10tone neko being my flag flier thanks D:

ohmy. Glam ranted and didn't make much of a point, nor did she make much sense. F34r my horrible ability to word things these days.

EDIT:

ohyah.
and I hate to say it, but Ayem makes me voilently angry for no reason other then I don't like her and her personalitly.

and snapsnogger I have a love-hate relationship with.
He Style annoys the crap out of me (NO NOSES gonk ), but I love her OC's and...she's a fellow aussie.

They're not really trends are they? D:
For me it's a toss up between the HTK colouring trend that plenty of studios in the comic biz picked up on and the weird loli fetish obsession I see in some artists online.
Really, Glampanda, I have to agree with you on snapesnogger. I think I added and deleted her off my watchlist at least five times. Not that it matters cuz everything she uploads ends up on the front page anyway.
Cartoonists and how cartoons are considered art. Just my opinion, though. I know they take their work seriously and I may have just angered any cartoonist reading this, but....

I seriously do not like how it's considered art.

I also strongly dislike badly drawn manga/ anime.
